YOSHIKI Announces Boyband Survival Series and Donates to Ukraine

YOSHIKI and NTV are teaming up to create a new boyband via a survival series. Coming on the heels of the channel’s “Nizi Project”, which created NiziU, and “THE FIRST”, which created BE:FIRST, comes “YOSHIKI SUPERSTAR PROJECT X.” The goal is to created the strongest boyband that can compete on the world stage.

YOSHIKI said that he wanted to take on this project as a means of contributing to the next generation of musical stars. He wants to give advice to young people based on his decades of experience and as one who has overseas activities.

Even though he is known for visual kei, YOSHIKI said that the group that emerges from the show could be a dance or hip hop one. He is looking for a fashionable and edgy genreless group that doesn’t have to be eccentric.

In related news, YOSHIKI recently donated ¥10,000,000 to the “Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis Emergency Assistance Fundraiser.” Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Rakuten Group CEO Hiroshi Mikitani created the “Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis Emergency Assistance Fundraiser” so that Rakuten shoppers could donated money or Rakuten points to help in the relief effort.

YOSHIKI retweeted Mikitani and announced his donation to the fund.
