Rumors of an impending Johnnys group debut have been rampant since last year, which had fans guessing who among the current roster of popular Johnnys Jrs will be selected for debut. It was finally announced on January 17 that Johnny & Associates will be debuting a new group “King & Prince” consisting of 6 members. The members are from the Johnnys Jr unit Mr. KING (Hirano Sho, Nagase Ren, Takahashi Kaito) and Mr. PRINCE (Kishi Yuta, Jinguji Yuta, Iwahashi Genki). The group will be releasing their debut CD in Spring under Universal Music. The new Johnnys group debut comes 4 years since Johnnys West debuted in 2014.
As it seems, Hirano Sho might take on the role of frontman for the group given the push he’s given in movies, dramas, and CM. He is cast as lead in two movies to be released this year and is rumored to star in the TBS drama “Hana Nochi Hare: Hanadan Next Season” with Sugisaki Hana, the supposed sequel for the popular Hana Yori Dango drama. It is reported to be slated for spring, right in time for the debut.

Namie also topped the Streaming Songs and Download Songs charts with “Hero.”
Yonezu Kenshi retook the top spot on the Download Albums chart with “BOOTLEG”, topping the chart for the third non-consecutive week.
Nariaki Obukuro who has produced songs for notable artist such as Suiyoubi no Campanella, Capeson, and Megumi Wata will release his major label debut album under Sony Music on April 25th. The album, titled, “Bunriha no Natsu” will be coproduced by Utada Hikaru whom Nariaki collaborated with on the track “Tomodachi.”
In addition to coproducing his album, Utada is also featured on his lead single, “Lonely One.” The song is a slow R&B number which implements many electronic elements and is currently available for streaming on Apple Music and Spotify in Japan. Despite the restrictions, a preview of the song can be heard on Apple Music Preview.

2017 was a very wild year for former SPEED member Takako Uehara. She had previously been married to TENN, a member of the group ET-KING. Tragically he committed suicide in 2014 after just two years of marriage.
After three years passed suddenly TENN’s younger brother leaking a transcript to the public alleging that Uehara had cheated on TENN with actor Tsuyoshi Abe, and that was the primary reason why TENN decided to take his own life. The allegations were met with some hesitance at first, with many asking why it took him so long to reveal this in the first place, the story soon unraveled itself and the affair turned out to be true.

Avex diva in training Beverly has dropped the new MV for her song A New Day.
The heartfelt power ballad is currently serving as the official theme song for the FUJI TV drama series Princess Jellyfish. Accompanied by a 14 piece string-band, the instruments are said to bring out the natural warmth and showcase the range of Beverly’s powerful voice. The song hopes to showcase the universal theme of “love”.
Her second single overall, it will be released in three versions. A CD only, CD+DVD, and CD+Blu-ray. Three b-sides will be included on all versions. Two of them are named All I Want and Happy now.
The third b-side is a Japanese cover of…wait for it…the global smash Despacito by Luis Fonsi. A preview two minute MV was released for the track at the end of December. The full versions of both Despacito and A New Day will be included on the physical copies of the DVD and Blu-rays.

The highly anticipated new song from singer & actor Gen Hoshino made it’s debut in the trailer for the upcoming film Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island.
Titled Koko ni Inai Anata e it will be released physically on February 28th, 2018. Not too many details are available on the single as of now, such as covers or a tracklist. Online retailers simply have the single titled as Doraemon, with it coming in the standard CD only and limited edition CD+DVD. Hoshino’s last single Family Song was an enormous success, shooting straight to the top of the Oricon charts selling over 190,000 copies in just one week.
Moga Magami is set to appear in an episode of the FUJI TV live-action drama series Princess Jellyfish.
Magami will be playing a character named Kotone Kiriyama. A very stylish and pretty girl, she is Kuranosuke Koibuchi’s (Koji Seto) college underclassman who works part-time in the music industry. Her character falls in love with Koibuchi.
Since graduating from Dempagumi.inc last year she took a short hiatus before returning to regular activities in October 2017, and made headlines after coming out as bisexual.
