Japan Box Office Ranking (Week of July 11 – 12)

Hosoda Mamoru’s (The Wolf Children and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) latest animated movie The Boy and the Beast starring Yakusho Koji, Sometani Shota and Miyazaki Aoi is off to a very huge start at number 1. Terminator Genisys also opens big at number 2, followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Boy and The Beast opens at number 1. Published on 458 screens, it earned 667,035,100 yen pulling an audience of 494,170. Directed by Hosoda Mamoru, this is his first film since 2012’s “Wolf Children” which grossed 4.22 billion yen. The Boy and The Beast movie opens at 182.7% higher in gross and 178.8% higher in mobilization than Wolf Children. Last week, Wolf Children was aired on TV garnering an audience rating of 13.6%. The new movie is expected to break 5 billion yen.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the T-800 Terminator in Terminator Genisys. Published on 737 screens, it earned 515,720,300 yen with an audience of 352,748.

Popular idol group Nogizaka46’s first documentary film Kanashimi no Wasurekata Documentary of Nogizaka46 was published on 46 screens, mobilizing 29,551 people and earning 45,602,400 yen, landing at number 9.

At number 10 is insect documentary movie Ari no Mama de Itai which was published on 402 screens, mobilizing 28,104 people and earning 37,115,200 KyoOsamu.

Avengers: Age of Ultron which recorded the best opening last weekend has retreated to 3rd place this week. On its 2nd weekend, the movie mobilized an audience of 234,553 earning 368,893,200 Yen. On the 4th position is the animated movie Love Live! The School Idol Movie which already topped 1.6 billion yen.
