#1 Song Review: Week of 7/20 – 7/26 (KinKi Kids v. Eir Aoi)

Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw NEWS defeat Nishino Kana. This week, we have 2 newcomers facing off! Find out what various staff members thought of the songs that topped the physical and digital charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!

Oricon #1: KinKi Kids – Bara to Taiyou (not released digitally)

Ronald: I’m not feeling this. It reminds me of a lame cabaret act. This would be ok if this was an actual Showa-era act singing the song (it reminds me of that era), but coming from KinKi Kids, it just seems lazy and uninspired. There is a way to take older music styles and make it exciting and fresh, and this definitely isn’t it. 3.5/10

Recochoku #1 / iTunes #1: Eir Aoi – Tsubasa (Oricon #9)

Ronald: This just reminds me of a younger Nana Mizuki / older JPop. Nice voice, and the song has a sense of drama to it, but it’s not catching me. It’s just kinda there, but not in a really dull way. I do like the Latin flair the song has. It spices it up a bit. 5.5/10
