Johnny & Associates to debut new group “King & Prince” in spring!

Rumors of an impending Johnnys group debut have been rampant since last year, which had fans guessing who among the current roster of popular Johnnys Jrs will be selected for debut. It was finally announced on January 17 that Johnny & Associates will be debuting a new group “King & Prince” consisting of 6 members. The members are from the Johnnys Jr unit Mr. KING (Hirano Sho, Nagase Ren, Takahashi Kaito) and Mr. PRINCE (Kishi Yuta, Jinguji Yuta, Iwahashi Genki). The group will be releasing their debut CD in Spring under Universal Music. The new Johnnys group debut comes 4 years since Johnnys West debuted in 2014.

As it seems, Hirano Sho might take on the role of frontman for the group given the push he’s given in movies, dramas, and CM. He is cast as lead in two movies to be released this year and is rumored to star in the TBS drama “Hana Nochi Hare: Hanadan Next Season” with Sugisaki Hana, the supposed sequel for the popular Hana Yori Dango drama. It is reported to be slated for spring, right in time for the debut.

The group and its members have been busy in several dramas, films and shows. With the help of Wikipedia and some more research, relevant information have been gathered! Get to know their profile below!

A new music label “Johnny’s Universe” was established in collaboration with Universal Music and the group will be the first artist to release under said label. The establishment of a new music label in conjunction with a debut follows the pattern of KinKi Kids (Johnnys Entertainment) and KAT-TUN (J-One Records / subsidiary of J-storm).

In June 2015, the six members were formed under the unit “Mr.King vs Mr. Prince” to serve as supporters for “TV Asahi Roppongi Hills Summer Festival SUMMER STATION”.

Hirano Sho is coming y’all !!!!!!

      • AoZora

I am doubtful if older groups than King and Prince will ever get to debut…
Any chances of Snowman and Six Tones debuting in near future or they forever will be back dancers?

        • Eris_03

I’m hoping that it would be debut season this time. SixTONES will probably be next, and their trending on Twitter right now. I don’t k ow about SnowMan, but I think after SixTONES they will be next.

          • AoZora

When SixTones and SnowMan danced with Kame to Yamapi, I thought they will debut next… Usually debut is preferred for early 20yr Olds… Any debut when done late, don’t click much… Uchuu Six will never debut I think..
I have hopes for SixTones and though…

            • Reileen

There were more groups that debuted when members where under 20.
              Arashi, K8, NEWS, HSJ….

There were tons of popular jrs so it was becoming harder to be certain who will debut next. King & Prince were on Music Station more often than SixTones too.

              • yamakita

Now you mentioned it, how about Tokyo B Shonen and HiHi Jet? They seem to be gaining in popularity fast.

                • Dramafan

They are young I feel like one of them could be debuted in this season if johnny’s Follows their usual plan of debuting 4 groups each season and the others could be saved for the next generation

                • Reileen

Aren’t those jr groups still fetuses? It’s still gonna be a long way for them

                  • guest

HiHi Jet will be 16-19 this year and Tokyo B Shounen 14-18. Both older than SZ when they debuted.

                    • yamakita

I can’t get over the fact that some of HiHi Jet were Snow Princes and now they’re all grown up!!!

                      • Bobson Dugnutt

I feel that way with Morimoto, Jesse, and HSJ!

                  • yamakita

Sexy Zone was fetuses when it debuted…

            • yamakita

Who is Uchuu Six??? I don’t see LoveTones or Travis Japan debuting.

              • AoZora

Uchuu Six is a Johnny’s Jr group

              • tl;dr

tl;dr Uchuu Six intro and butthurt rant because J&A sucks and I have the right to get butthurt over something once in 5 years:

Uchuu Six is a newer group, created over a year ago BUT the members aren’t new – they’re among the most senior Jrs.
The group consists of the three TheyBudou members (which were supposed to celebrate their 8th anniversary the day Uchuu Six was created, iirc) – Eda Tsuyoshi (’87), Yamamoto Ryota (’89), Hayashi Shota (’90), the last remaining member of “MAD” – Matsumoto Kouta (’89), and two Jrs who weren’t in any group before – Hara Yoshitaka (’95) and Meguro Ren (’97).
Eda, Yamamoto & Hayashi joined J&A in 2001; Matsumoto in 2003, Hara & Meguro in 2010. (Yes, 4 of them been around since before NEWS was created, 3 even since before T&T debut)
They backdance for Arashi, last year also did for Kame’s solo con. They had some solo lives (the ones other Jr groups had too) and will have a stageplay this year. They also appear on Johnny’s Countdown every year.
(previously, the TheyBudou group would backdance for Arashi, sometimes for T&T, KinKi, NEWS, and would take part in random stageplays (with MAD here and there) like the Tackey ones, Playzone etc.)
Unfortunately they don’t show up on any TV shows (they’re listed for Jr.dex, but I’m not getting my hopes up until I actually see a preview with them in it) and the only DVDs you can see them on now are basically just Arashi concerts. They SOMETIMES will show up on a special music show backdancing – last year it happened twice as much as usual, to the total of TWO TIMES, both times backdancing for T&T – in the summer FNS and MS Ultra Fes.
They’re amazing performers and even just those 2 seconds they can be seen behind Arashi makes me smile.
Oooh, also, aside from some awesome dancers, the group has also an amazing singer that could easily outsing most of the debuted Johnnys – Hayashi.
For the amount of good job they’ve been doing for the shitton of years, they definitely deserve more. But it’s J&A, so they’d rather hide their talented people just because they’re “too old”. They’ll never debut, but I hope they’ll keep getting jobs at least.

                left to right:
Meguro, Matsumoto, Yamamoto, Hayashi, Eda, Hara

                • hobowright

Sadly, Uchuu Six and Snow Man feel like those MA-MAD-4U-MADE dancing groups for their seniors. As if that is their only main purpose in their agency. I live vicariously through any stage shows they get to participate in.

                  • tl;dr

Uchuu Six actually IS one of those “MA-MAD-4U-MADE” groups since the 4 older members were in M.A.D. at some point.
M.A.D. was a large dance group which gradually gave birth to smaller groups – MADE, TheyBudou, 4U and “MAD”.

Snow Man not so much since they still get the regular Jr work that groups like SixTones or Love-tune get.

I wish Playzone would come back :(

                    • Dramafan

                      What is playzone?

        • Reileen

I think SixTones got their hype as Jrs peak already 2-3 yrs ago. King and Prince are on the upward trend. When debut rumors started, they were on top of that list. We never know with these debuts as they have no pattern. SixTones might still debut. I honestly don’t see Snowman debuting.

          • yamakita

I’ve been very into SnowMan lately, but I get what you’re saying. I feel bad for the members. Then again, it can always turn out like Kis-My-Ft2 and work in their favor because it’s such a sob story?

            • Reileen

Kis-My-Ft2 had the uber popularity and sob story of waiting for so long to debut.
Among the popular units, I can only see SixTones having a chance for debut, that is if JE is willing to debut another soon after King & Prince.

              • hobowright

                I feel like JE wouldn’t take that risk. Considering ABC-Z and Kis-My-Ft2 were the two senior groups that had a good fanbase;
Ebisu debuted not long after Kisumai but honestly, Ebisu’s debut felt rushed and there wasn’t much hype compared to the latter. Till today I still feel like Ebisu is stuck in the junior limbo.

              • Dramafan

Johnny’s usually debut in what I call seasons ( not an official term) between 2011- 2014 they debuted 4 groups and went on a debut hiatus before that 2002-2007 they debuted 5 groups and went into a hiatus even before that they have done similar type of debut plans only there was less groups and shorter hiatus time

      • yamakita

I honestly don’t get his appeal, but the center always seem to have the same look. I’m thinking of Sexy Zone in this case.

    • Laura Márquez

I’M SO HAPPY FOR THEM <333

    • neko

I knew it , Hirano sho was everywhere recently

    • I feel old.

      • yamakita

But not as old as when Sexy Zone debuted ;)

        • リナ

          So true……

        • lol
You know, I got into Arashi in 2007 and that was the same year HSJ debuted….and they hit 10 years this past year. I was 18…my god. *rocks in rocking chair while knitting*

          • I know the feeling since i started a year before you .

          • Bobson Dugnutt

I feel you. I got into Johnnys in 2007 too but I’m older than you TT

    • DomotoKT0721

I hope the establishment of independent music label before debut means the management are serious about the group’s music quality.
All visuals team too. Let’s see if they have the talents, skills & good personality too. Hopefully they’ll pick a leader early.

P.s.: i hope SixTones & Snow Man would still be able to debut somehow or at least have a lot more shows & opportunities to perform in front of their fans & the public.

      • Reileen

From the news, Kishi Yuta is the leader

    • ppfls

was hoping for SixTones or Snow Man to finally debut but congrats King&Prince!

    • Dramafan

I guess this is the start of a new debut season for johnny’s I suspect Sixtones and snowman will debut next year or depending how early this group will debut one of them might be debuted this year just like kisumai and sexy zone in 2011

    • james

can they really make it? hope they don’t end up like ABC-Z or Johnny’s WEST.

      • Eris_03

Johnny’s West is actually doing well though. It’s Sexy Zone and ABC-Z tjat is on the bottom two of Johnny’s right now.

        • Ri

Hmmm… Well, I’m kinda agree about ABC-Z, but Sexy Zone? Lol. Are you serious?

          • Eris_03

I might be wrong about Sexy Zone, sorry about that. It’s because in the 2017 sales they’re second to the last, before ABC-Z. I might be wrong, sorry.

But then again, Tackey and Tsubasa doesn’t really release anything, and so does Tokio. Tokio is really good in tv ratings though.

            • AoZora

Just adding, V6 too doesn’t release much music.. Each one are doing their own stuff…
I think the only money making groups(cd sales) are Arashi, K8, Jump and NEWS…
KATTUN was on hiatus.. Sexy zone, kisumai and ABC-Z not upto the mark… Till now I couldn’t complete listening to even one kisumai song completely.. Their singing is so horrible..

              • Eris_03

                https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f67bf57854a7f09bc697b2f78f8807f05bab20ded74b4dbeec56d771f4d435d7.jpg

V6 is actually doing quite good in cd sales this year though.

Props to Johnny’s though that almost each of their acts are good at something. It may be music sales, butai or variety, they always have a place in the industry. I feel bad for ABC-Z because they debuted too late.

                • light

Is this list legit though? I’ve seen this format not long ago and the numbers looked a bit random.

                  • julia

I think it’s legit. I know someone who recently joined Arashi Fanclub and their member is 2,13x,xxx. Sorry don’t know exact #

                    • light

No i was talking about the sales one, i’ve also seen people from other fandoms being critical about it.

                  • neko

and the one about sales looks legit too at least sexy zone numbers are ok (comparing them to wikipedia numbers)

                    • Charlie

comparing to wikipedia numbers, arashi’s is at least 400k off (they should be around 2,290,000). and I’m pretty sure K8 sold more than hsj last year

              • Reileen

Uhhhh when it comes to sales, Kisumai is actually one of the top sellers in Johnnys right after Arashi and Kanjani8.

                • AoZora

Ok.. I never knew that.. I never liked their songs.. Was trying hard to catch up with them but haven’t succeeded so far…

                  • Reileen

Kisumai sells way more than NEWS lol. Even V6 and KinKi Kids have solid sales number even after all these years.
Kisumai’s best album for me is I SCREAM, so if you are into dance tunes/ upbeat music I can recommend that to you. They are arguably the best JE group in terms of dance so they get that type of music.

                    • AoZora

Hmm. Thanks for the recommendation.. Will try listening :)

              • yamakita

The quality of Johnny’s singles have gone down significantly in my opinion. It seems like the songs are the best when the guys are around 25 years old then it’s downhill from there. The last memorable Arashi single for me was GUTS! Everything else seems pretty mediocre. HSJ had some really nice singles a few years ago and now we get Come On A My House–that grammar kills me every time. Kis-My-Ft2 had some really good songs when they first debuted, but now the songs are also just meh. Most of Sexy Zone’s songs have been terrible except Rock Tha Town.

Anyway, the list goes on and on.

                • ”Come On A My House”

                  AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

                • srsly?

come on a house is from 2013 though.. their music is way better now.

                  • yamakita

It’s worse now :( I mean, they used to get songs like SUPER DELICATE, OVER, and Hitomi no Screen (why they cap half of the titles?). I’m talking about that kind of caliber.

                • Gyutan

I hate rock the town. SZ Gyutto is good tho.

                  • yamakita

I hated it at first, too, but it grew on me. Gyutto is too cutesy for me.

                • Pipe’sIDIC

Rosemary Clooney, yes George Clooney’s aunt, has a ‘Come on a my house’ song.

Not a fan of I Seek/Daylight? How about Doors? I’ll be there?

                  • yamakita

OK, respect. I did not know that. Now it makes sense cuz Kitagawa is THAT old.

                    • Pipe’sIDIC

Well, you have to give credit to the song lyricist/composer for the song title. Granpa Johnny didn’t write it.

Unless he does write songs for his idols.

              • aqua88

                Try listening to My Resistance.
I am not a Kisumai fan (not even close) but that’s my favourite ever song from them

                • AoZora

                  OK.. Will try listening :)

            • Ri

Don’t worry, it’s okay. Sexy Zone quite popular and have a good sales actually and they quite popular. Of course not like Arashi, Kanjani, HSJ, etc, but still. Unfortunately, they don’t have their own entertainment show compared to other groups… This could be a good opportunity for them to increase sales. A.B.C-Z are basically ignored because they aren’t very popular.

              • Rika

In my opinion Sexy Zone is doing well. They are still very young. But they have a good number of members and all of them kind of look good. None of them is a horrid singer. Most Johnny’s groups that made it big LONG TERM actually started like that (young, kind of with lower sales in comparison to the others etc.) –> Arashi, K8, and actually also H!S!J. Once one or two members are able to attract a broader audience, they will grow bigger (something that for me Kisumai lacks for example)

There is also no use in comparing them to the older groups, because obviously these have been around for longer, many of them had several peaks and they still do well.

The only group I’m worried about is A.B.C-Z which is sad because I like what they are doing and their individual concept.

                • Ri

Completely agree with you. I’m glad we have the same opinion about Sexy Zone. Although I’m not a fan of A.B.C.Z, but i like their songs. They are really tallented, but, yeah, sadly underrated.

        • neko

Sexy Zone is not at the bottom at least not a cording to the fan clubs https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/299c591c457e6e76bce297de2fb69da3514ff49967857700f3105afce7aad1ea.jpg

          • NOOOOOOO KinKi is now at #3. T____________T

            • fq

They’ll be at #4 soon since their FC suspiciously didn’t get any members for half a year and then finally moved by just 10k. Same thing for the same amount of time and at the same time happened to Kisumai, which, before their FC “froze”, was fighting with HSJ for the spot for months. Then Kisumai (and KinKi) FC numbers didn’t change for a long time, while HSJ went up by a lot. I predict same thing will happen to K8 once HSJ gets close to taking over KinKi.

              • This is why KinKi needs to be more active! They always one of the top with their rich history but the company seemed not trying anymore. DX

                • fq

I meant that their FC got “frozen” because Johnny’s probably wants to make HSJ the 2nd most popular group. That’s my theory, because it’s suspicious how Kisumai’s FC suddenly stopped growing (I was watching the HSJ x Kisumai FC battle for months) and KinKi’s did the same at the very same time. And then months later they both grew by just 10k at the same time. All other FCs had their usual growth.

                  #JohnnysConspiracyTheories

                  • mfban

As far as I know, the FC numbers are reported by fans based on what number they receive after joining FC. KT, NEWS, and K8 numbers were reset (required reenter or sth) after the joined FC was broken down, while FC like Arashi kept raising in number since debut (they never take into account fans leaving the fandom). If one FC ‘froze’, that could probably mean fans are not reporting appropriately or fans are actually not increasing that much. Hsj FC has been around longer, their sales are on par (and now surpassing kisumai’s). When comparing the activities of hsj and kisumai last year, i do think the lead is not very suspicious.

                  • Reileen

lol Johnnys can’t freeze FC numbers bec those numbers are not even published by them and are unofficial. As mentioned, it gets updated whenever a new FC member reports her latest FC number.

                    • fq

Yeah, I know. But then someone pointed out that they can easily delay membership processing and sending out FC cards. With how shady Johnny’s can be, I think there’s a possibility they could do something like that.

                      • Reileen

they cannot delay that tho? once you applied and paid everything, you immediately get an email confirmation with your FC number. You don’t have to wait for the FC card that might be released in batches.

                • Reileen

Tsuyoshi doesn’t need to be forced to work more given his illness. They did the most they could do last year for the anniv, working around how to perform while considering Tsuyoshi’s situation.

                  • Oh I hope I dont come across of wanting him to work despite his illness because I dont want it at all. He is actually my fave celeb in the whole world so his illness is a big blow to me. My comment generally aimed for the past 10 years where KinKi only release 1 single per year or 1 album every 2 years. :(

      • Dramafan

ABC-Z was debuted way too late any chance of them getting popular was gone by then. The group was created in 2002 and got debuted in 2012 the members were in their late twenties except one.

        • yamakita

And now they’re old enough to be fathers to the newer juniors. Sad.

    • AoZora

all the boys are good looking… Hope this group has a successful debut…

    • Eris_03

Hoping for SixTONES debut these year also, and SnowMan next.

Honestly speaking, those two groups are more polished than these guys, but damn Hirano Sho is soo handsome.

I was actually hoping and expecting that it would be SixTONES, because they’re the most ready for me. They have the visuals, singing, dancing, acting and variety, but well.. Hope they would be next, like this year, because they are getting older.

    • light

No idea who they are but good luck to them =)
      That name though lol

    • Keny

they seem like good boys. a little too young for me to be interested in stanning them but hope they’ll be successful anyway.

    • Risakofan103

I’m upset at the fact Snow Man has not debuted yet. How upset am I? To the point where I actually logged in, for the first time in my life, to comment about it.

      • Eris_03

Lol me too, but I was more upset about SixTONES to the point that I ressurected my 7 year old dead twitter 😂

      • hobowright

Same! I am really upset that Snow Man who were more experienced and skilled are not debuting.

    • angel223_

Im hoping for 4U, since they were old to be a jrs still, they were all going 32 yrs old this yr.
I guess they will be endless jrs.

      Congrats to debut!!!
      Hope for their success.

      • Grace

4U already disbanded….they are no more juniors. However all of the members are still with J&A. I think no one left the jimusho. They are currently working as actors and mostly appear on stage play just like Shunsuke Kazama. I’m not sure if any of them will going to be push as bigger actor like Ikuta Toma. But at least they still have jobs to do.

        • No, they did not disband. Where did you get this info from? Lmao.
They’re still a group. Still on j-net and j-web in the Jr section. Still appear under 4U name. Still on their regular TV and radio show, in magazines – all under their group name as well.
They might get debuted soon (the Toma/Kazama/Yara type of debut), since lately they’re often just called a “Johnny’s group” instead of a “Johnny’s Jr. group” (or maybe they already did but some mags didn’t get the memo yet, idk), but for now J&A still has them under Jr sections.
So yeah, 4U is still alive.

    • CyDo

Hmm from the looking department, they look quite good actually, so I look forward to their growth ☺

    • 116FanxyZihoes

You realise it’s been a while since you discovered Johnny’s when there’s now people at your age debuting (this feels so weird but I wish them the best😊)

    • Himi Tsu

      …. Should have been SixTONES

But well I’ll check their next release out

    • Lany *~

I feel like it’s been 84 years… since JE made a debut announcement.

    • SlyMoonFox

There’s only two who are one year younger than me. I can deal with that. I hope they deliver and I wish them luck!

    • Yamada Ryosuke
    • bailey darbii

they’re all shorties! and very kid/teen looking despite being in their twenties? i wish snow man, six tones or even the grp myuto is in debuted

      • Bobson Dugnutt

        Johnny loves his chibis

      • mfban

‘Only’ 2 of them are below 1m70, which is not that horrible. JE idols have a long lifespan so the younger (look) the better. It’s very reasonable I think.

        • bailey darbii

“only 2 are below 170” below 170????? i though they all would be at least 175 but lower? no one is at least 179 and up I see. i don’t think young looking matters when they aren’t that good-looking to begin with, and shorties on top of that….well, so goes the JE way.

          • Gyutan

179? These are Johnny’s, not kpop. Height doesn’t really matter. Actually they’re tall enough and has good body proportions making them look taller.
it’s more realistic to have diversity in height range thus making them more relatable. Most debuted Johnny’s are less than 170 or around that range. 179 above are people like Nagase & Yuto.

          • menzu

“they aren’t that good-looking to begin with”
that’s rich coming from someone who wants snow man or myuto to debut lol

    • Mayumi

Even though I am a fan of almost every Johnny group I don’t follow Johnny Jr. anymore. SixTONES are the only one that I know off.

Though I feel old now even though I am 25 seeing the newer group debuting. I probably stan them. I mean I still stan NCT Dream and they are younger.

    • eplizo

Congratz to them. It’s nice they’re on the older side compared to the other jrs too. SixTONES better debut soon.

    • yamakita

So on average Mr. Prince is older than Mr. King? Interesting.

      • mfban

While Prince is actually shorter (except one member) and look younger (more on the cute side)

        • yamakita

I don’t know why the one with shortest hair is in the group. I don’t get his appeal.

    • yamakita

I got this TV guide because of the cover a few months back. Now I wonder if it was foreshadowing. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f72b4241c25381f8e49a35d62ad7fcf5fadda45b6a8308c57ff7618c1785f038.jpg

    • Am I the only one who is disturbed with the grammar? How it is supposed to be ‘Kings & Princes’ instead of King & Prince? Or ‘Snow Men’ instead of Snow Man?

      OTL

      • mfban

They take turn to be, lol

      • hobowright

That Snow Man bugged me a lot and it even used to be Mis Snow Man. I couldn’t take it seriously. Apparently, Johnny used the members’ initials except one of their members, Fukka, wondered where was his initial in that name and thought it didn’t make sense.

Considering Johnny is American, he should know the correct grammatical terms tbh but lol guess not

      • neko

why ‘Kings & Princes’ instead of King & Prince? My first language is not English , but for me he name have most sense in singular . because King is one group and Prince another , is not like there where three kings and three princes. Maybe they used that logic for Japaneses market

      • yamakita

I am always disturbed by the Japanese English grammar. Anyone should think twice before pointing fingers when an American butchers the Japanese language. So painful…!!!

        NEWS’ “Finger Love,” anyone????

    • hobowright

Naww, it has been awhile since there’s a debut and I’m happy for them.
I do wish SnowMan would debut though.

    • Again JE debuting random groups with shitty names .
I thought Six Tones would be next but i guess there has to be a random mashup /debut for testing.
Let us hope the rest will have time to debut.

    • TM

Is there no better group name? It’s super, super cringey..

I don’t really follow JE anymore, but I was a bit curious when I heard Marius Yo from Sexy Zone was going to appear in an American Netflix sitcom, the headlines in the US were: ‘Yes, Sexy Zone is a real group name’ or something like that, wtf. I don’t know why I was the one who got embarrassed, not even a fan.

    • do-s

I’m so upset, I’ve been waiting for sixtones to debut, but yeah it’s

    • do-s

‘m so upset, I’ve been waiting for sixtones to debut, but yeah it’s kinda obvious that their popularity was declining this past few years.

    • WorldGN18

I don’t follow Johny’s so I dk about those other 2 groups everyone is commenting should debut, but at least this one looks promising, at least I find them more appealing than when Sexy Zone debuted…

    • Jasmine Ho

I knew it… they were the chosen ones… SixTONES should be next.

    • sha25fa

I know that everyone deserve it & talented, but I must confess that I really thought it would be either SixTones/SnowMan who’s gonna debut.

      Hoping the best for all.
