Earlier this week, Vice released a controversial documentary chronicling the phenomenon of “joshi kosei osanpo dates”, a practice in which older men pick up underage schoolgirls off the street for paid dates. They linked this to the dark side of Japan’s obsession with schoolgirls and cute culture. They also showed certain cafes and an idol concert / handshake event as elements of this phenomenon. Yesterday, Vice released extra footage from their documentary. This footage shows more of the group featured in the clip, Akishibu Project. There’s also an interview with member Natsumi Sukawa. Actress Tsuchiya Tao is playing the heroine Takamiya Naho in this December’s live-action film of Takano Ichigo’s popular manga series Orange. In addition, Yamazaki Kento — Tsuchiya’s co-star in the ongoing NHK live-action television series Mare — is reuniting with her as Naruse Kakeru, a transfer student with a deep emotional wound due to a tragedy with his mother.
As previously reported, the sci-fi love story follows Naho, a 16 year old high school student who begins to fall in love with Takeru, a new transfer student.
Her infatuation is predicted by an enigmatic letter that she receives the morning before they meet. The letter claims to have been written by herself, ten years in the future. It advises her to behave differently in the past, so that Naho’s 26 year old self won’t have to grapple with so many regrets.
The film will be completed by mid-November, and it will open throughout Japan on December 12.
On the single side, μ’s / Kousaka Honoka, Minami Kotori, Sonoda Umi topped the chart with “Bokutachi wa Hitotsu no Hikari / Future style”, with its 1 CD only edition selling 97,944 copies. This made it the best selling single this week.
On the album side, DREAMS COME TRUE took with “DREAMS COME TRUE THE BEST! Watashi no Dorikamu”, with its 1 3CD edition selling 119,280 copies. This made it the best selling album for the second week in a row.

On August 19, EXILE will release their new single, “24karats GOLD SOUL.” This is the group’s first release since “19 -Road to AMAZING WORLD-“, their album from this past March. This song is the 4th in the “24karats” series, but it’s the first one to feature EXILE only. The B-side for this single will be an ATSUSHI solo song, “UPSIDE DOWN.” It is a “respect song” dedicated to USA, MAKIDAI, and MATSU, all of whom are leaving EXILE by year’s end. The song is about the bonds between the 4 men. It incorporates elements of funk and black music from the 80s and 90s.
Today, EXILE released the music video for their new single. The over 7 minute long clip is a spectacular of dance, backed by a track that sees EXILE returning to their more urban sound. Check it out after the jump, along with the single’s covers and tracklist.
On September 2, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will release her new single, “Crazy Party Night ~Pumpkin no Gyakushuu~.” It is a Halloween-themed song. It serves as the theme for her upcoming tour “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu JAPAN HALL TOUR ‘Crazy Party Night 2015’.” The single’s B-sides have tie-ins as well. The first B-side, “No No No”, is the CM song for Glico’s Ice no Mi. Next comes “Oshiete Dance Floor”, which was used in a commercial for Sharp Aquos 4K televisions. The last B-side is “Kimama”, which is the CM song for Nintendo 3DS game “Tobidase Doubutsu no Mori.”
The limited edition of the single comes with a DVD featuring footage from a special live from this past April that was filmed by NHK. It was filmed in 8K Super Hi-Vision.
The covers for this single were designed by Steve Nakamura. They feature Kyary as a toy. See them after the jump along with the single’s tracklist and the commercials mentioned above!
Sakanaction will release their concept album “Natsukashii Tsuki wa Atarashii Tsuki ~Coupling & Remix works~” on August 5. In the clip, there are dancers, a crowd wearing headphones, and references to Ichiro’s favorite hobby: fishing. Check it out after the jump!
