#1 Song Review: Week of 2/17 – 2/23 (Kobushi Factory v. RADIO FISH v. Teshima Aoi)

Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw KAT-TUN defeat Teshima Aoi and Kiritani Kenta as Urashima Taro to take the top spot. This week, we have a returnee from last week and 2 newcomers facing off. Find out what various staff members thought of the songs that topped the physical and digital charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!

Oricon #1: Kobushi Factory – Sakura Night Fever / Chotto Guchoku ni! Chototsu Moushin / Osu! Kobushi Tamashii (not in the Recochoku top 50 / not in the iTunes top 50)

Ronald: Sakura Night Fever – This isn’t so bad. A nice, little disco-tinged pop song. The one thing that confused me though was the little segment of traditional music. It felt out of place and seemed more like a piece of humor than an actual part of the song. 5/10

Chotto Guchoku ni! Chototsu Moushin – I’m not a fan of this. What’s with all that grunting? It sounds like they’re trying to give power vocals, but instead if just comes off as forced grunting. Just sing the song next time. 3/10

Osu! Kobushi Tamashii – More  grunting… Who thought this was a good idea? The track on this song is better. It has a nice 80s feel. 4/10

Single average: 4/10

Recochoku #1: RADIO FISH – PERFECT HUMAN (not released physically / iTunes #2)

Ronald: Is this like the Japanese LMFAO? I didn’t like them, and I don’t like this. It’s too novelty song for me. It sounds like a basic dance song that would’ve came programmed on a keyboard in the 90s. And the “perfect human” part. It’s pretty damn indecipherable. This song is just a big joke that I’m not laughing at. 1.5/10

iTunes #1: Teshima Aoi – Ashita e no Tegami (Drama Version) (Oricon #24 / Recochoku #2)

Ronald: This is pleasant, but it’s not really that interesting. It’s a drama theme, and it very much feels like one. It’s slow and soft, something to tug at the heartstrings. But I feel as if I’ve heard this song a million times from a million different people. I wonder what the people at Fuji TV were thinking was so special about this song to use it as a theme song like 2 years after it came out. 5/10
