We’re back with this week’s edition of Oricon Flashback! This is where we look back on what topped the charts this week 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years ago. Think of it as a way to reminisce and learn about the past of Japanese music.
On July 15, Awich will release her new digital single, “Shook Shook.” This release serves as her major label debut under Universal Music. This signing comes after she has released for years on the independent label YENTOWN, in the very male-dominated field of hip hop.
The Chiaki Zulu-produced “Shook Shook” will appear on Awich’s upcoming EP “Partition”, out August 21. In fact, all seven songs on “Partition” are produced by Chiaki Zulu.
In related news, Awich’s cover of John Lennon & Yoko Ono‘s 1971 hit “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” will serve as the ending theme for the film “Silent Tokyo”, out December 4. Awich’s cover and be heard in the film’s trailer, which can be seen below, along with the “Shook Shook” music video!
TAEYO, formerly known as Taeyoung Boy, made his major label debut this past May on PONY CANYON with the Chaki Zulu-produced digital single “ASHURA.” On July 15, he will release his new mini album “ORANGE.”
In addition to Chiaki Zulu, “ORANGE” features production by BACHLOGIC and CELSIOR COUPE.
TAEYO recently released a teaser video for his new mini album’s title track. He’s also released the entire mini album on YouTube in the form of a playlist. Check these videos out below!
Today marks the release of Tomohisa Yamashita‘s brand new single titled “Nights Cold“. It’s currently servings as the ending theme for Hulu exclusive drama “THE HEAD“, which Yamapi is also starring in.
The cool looking lyric video for “Night & Cold” perfectly captures the feeling of the song, and the drama itself. The lyric video consists of various images of nature, space, and Yamapi himself. The song features both English and Japanese lyrics, and fans are in for a treat as there was subtitles in 7 languages. In the CC settings fans can choose from English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Thai, and Indonesian!

Legendary producer Tetsuya Komuro has been announced as the producer for Nogizaka46‘s upcoming track “Route 246“. The song was written by the 46/48 family head honcho Yasahui Akimoto.
“Route 246” is scheduled to be released on July 24th, and it is Komuro’s first produced work since April 2018. In January 2018, Komuro announced his sudden retirement from the music industry due to him cheating on wife, former globe singer KEIKO.
On July 18, “Ongaku no Hi 2020” will air. The first set of performers was recently revealed and it includes the likes of Perfume, BiSH, milet, MAN WITH A MISSION, AI, and E-girls. The second and third set of performers have now been revealed!
New perfomers added to the show in the second set include Daichi Miura, LiSA, MAX, Spitz, Keyakizaka46, and DA PUMP.
The third set includes the likes of Arashi, V6, King & Prince, NEWS, KAT-TUN, and Hey! Say! JUMP. MISIA will also make her “Ongaku no Hi” this year, performing a new self-written song for the first time on TV.
