NMB48 and Kis-My-Ft2 top the Weekly Oricon Charts 8/11 – 8/17

On this week’s Oricon chart, NMB48’s album ‘Sekai no Chuushin wa Osaka ya 〜 Namba Jichiku 〜’ sold 325,249 copies while Kis-My-Ft2 hit the top of the singles chart selling 214,682 copies of song single ‘Another Future’.

Ayumi Hamasaki does the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been sweeping the world and is finally making its way to Japanese celebrities, but more specifically Ayumi Hamasaki.

It’s in support of research for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), an incurable degenerative disease of the nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement. Originally just a fundraising campaign, it has quickly turned into a viral sensation worldwide and has raised not only awareness for the disease, but millions of dollars towards the continued research through The ALS Association.

Essentially you are nominated to pour a bucket of ice-cold water over yourself within 24 hours, or donate $100 to the ALS Association. But most celebrities just do both.

UA, Naruyoshi Kikuchi reunite for live jazz album

Saxophonist Naruyoshi Kikuchi and singer UA have teamed up once again for cure jazz reunion, a new live recording of their critically acclaimed collaboration cure jazz released eight years ago.

The new album features audio selected from their shows at Sakurazaka Theater in Okinawa on March 7th and Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo on April 3rd. Band members Masayasu Tzboguchi (piano; Tokyo Zawinul Bach, Date Course Pentagon Royal Garden), Masato Suzuki (bass; LITTLE CREATURES), and Nobuo Fujii (drums; Tokyo Zawinul Bach) have all reprised their roles from the original studio version recorded in 2006, joined by Pardon Kimura as live PA.

It will be released in SACD hybrid format on September 3rd.

I Don’t Like Mondays release short video for debut song ‘Memories’

A short video for I Don’t Like Mondays’ song ‘MEMORIES‘ from their debut mini album ‘Play’ has been uploaded.

The cover and video were designed and directed by Yusuke Tanaka of video production company Caviar, who has previously worked with Namie Amuro on her video for ‘Rock Steady’. Styling for the photo shoot and video was by Miter Shinichi of KiKi inc.

Also released was an audio video for their track ‘Perfect Night’. Check out both below!

‘STAND BY ME DORAEMON’ will soon be available in 21 countries and regions

After news that 88.4% of ‘STAND BY ME DORAEMON’ moviegoers crying at some point during the film, Oricon reports it was decided that this new film will soon be available in 21 countries and regions throughout the world to upset even more people.

Localized versions are planned for Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei*, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos*, Cambodia*, Myanmar*, Philippines*, Indonesia, Italy*, San Marino*, Vatican City*, Malta*, Monaco*, Switzerland* and Spain. All countries and regions marked with an asterisk (*) are locations where Doraemon-related media will be distributed for the first time (legally).

The Television Drama Academy Awards is held quarterly by a magazine, The Television, and the results are based on the combined votes from the magazine readers, juries, and TV journalists.

Ikimonogakari, FLOW, and GRANRODEO to sing for ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’

The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai) will be getting a television anime adaptation which will premiere on October 5 and air throughout the fall 2014 anime season. Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine has announced its theme song performers. Ikimonogakari will perform the opening theme song. The song, titled ‘Netsujou no Spectrum’, is written and composed by Mizuno Yoshiki and arranged by Kondo Takashi and Tanaka Yusuke. This song will also be released together with ‘Namida ga Kieru Nara’ as a double A-side single on October 15.

Rock bands FLOW and GRANRODEO will collaborate on the ending theme song. Ads introducing the OP and ED theme song performers have also been released.
