Kimi no Na Wa. Snubbed for Oscar Nomination

The announcement for the 89th Academy Award nominations occurred earlier today, Tuesday January 24.  A noticeable absent title from the list of nominations for ‘Best animated feature film of the year’ was Japan’s smash-hit Kimi no Na Wa. (Your Name).  Considering the film’s great domestic success by becoming the highest grossing anime film in the world and the highest grossing film in Japan of all time, as well as major popularity abroad, Makoto Shinkai‘s animated spectacular was expected to be a shoo in for an Oscar nomination.  Furthermore, with the plans of bringing Kimi no Na Wa. to theaters in the USA and Canada on April 8th, attention should have been brought to the film within North America.  So was Kimi no Na Wa. snubbed for a nomination?

The Dormant Potential of Tentenko

The world of Tentenko is a strangely bipolar one; on one hand you have ‘idol’ Tentenko, the outgoing, catchy, cute and instantly approachable side. On the other you have the almost impenetrable, do-whatever-the-fuck, experimental music nerd Tentenko, which is getting as far gone from ‘idol’ as imaginable. However, neither side seems to have reached that ‘wow’ moment, there are no releases that feel truly timeless, yet the promise of something great sits waiting right in-front of our faces…

HKT48’s Anna Murashige almost scammed by porn website

Looks like HKT48 member Anna Murashige seems to enjoy the perks of being 18 years old. On the final day at the annual AKB48 Request Hour Setlist Best 100 Anna shared an entertaining story during one of the MC spots.

Anna revealed that since she’s finally 18 years old she’s become of age to legally look at some porn sites, after finding an unnamed porn website she registered and clicked on a video from the “hitozuma” (married woman) genre. The video didn’t play, suddenly a pop-up appeared with the text “50,000 yen for 30 minutes”. She quickly cleared the screen but another message appeared asking to call the displayed number. Anna called the number giving the operator her name, also telling him she wants to cancel her account. The operator told her canceling the account would cost an additional 420,000 yen.  After explaining her situation to the operator he felt bad about trying to charge an 18 year old that much money, so he lowered the ” cancellation fee” to 60,000 yen. After telling him 60k was still too much he replied with “I believe in you, Anna. You can do it”

Naturally that response made her a bit uneasy, but she still thought a payment for 60,000 yen was required so she called her good friend, and fellow HKT48 member Sakura Miyawaki for help.  After hearing the predicament Anna was in Sakura yelled at her for almost falling for the websites fraud attempt, and that being forced to pay those fees was completely fictitious. With AV DVD sales still going strong in Japan perhaps Anna’s wota will keep this story in mind when looking for fan-gifts to purchase.

Meanwhile, HKT48 are currently preparing for the release of their 9th single Bagutte Iijan which will be released on February 15th, 2017.
