AKB48 alumni Mariya Nagao plays a former AV actress in a crime thriller drama

A TV drama featuring a former adult video actress, played by a former 48G idol? No wonder the Yahoo headline is screaming about “Mariya Nagao’s bold bed scene!”. And that’s really the hype in a nutshell: the digest trailer for the first episode of ‘Funouhan’ (lit. “Imbossibility Defense”) shows briefly Nagao’s character being busy in the bedroom. In reality, the actual plot and story behind the new crime TV series are more interesting than one could guess just by judging from Yahoo Japan’s clickbaiting.

WHY@DOLL urges you to smile on their new single

WHY@DOLL, an idol duo originating from Sapporo, Hokkaido, has released a music video for their new song, ‘Show Me Your Smile’. The song was penned, composed and arranged by singer-songwriter and sound creator Takeshi Nakatsuka. The single itself will come out next year, on January 23rd. The single will include a coupling song, titled ‘Promises Promises’. Following the release of the single the girls will embark on a release tour. The final concert will be held in SELENE b2 in Tokyo.

Nagasawa Masami plays a swindler for Spring getsu9 “The Confidence Man JP”

Nagasawa Masami is back to Fuji TV’s getsu9 after 11 years since “Proposal Daisakusen”. Nagasawa will be playing the role of a confidence trickster in the new drama “The Confidence Man JP” which will start airing in April! Screenplay will be handled by Kosawa Ryota (Date, Legal High).

She will be joined by Higashide Masahiro and Kohinata Fumiyo. The trio will play a team of con artists who work together to steal money from shady wealthy people like yakuza bosses and evil businessmen.

Sakurai Sho tops “Johnnys Face of the Year 2017”

It’s almost the end of the year so we are getting a lot of rankings for 2017, with yet another one for Johnnys.

Let’s talk about solo work! Johnnys idols are active not just with group activities but also with individual work such as dramas, movies, theater, variety and other fields. Modelpress conducted a survey asking “Which Johnnys talent is the most active in in 2017?” and readers vote on a Johnnys who stand out with their individual activities.

Box Office Charts 12/9 – 12/10: Kamen Rider #2, Destiny: The Tale of Kamakura #2, Murder on the Orient Express #3

There are four new films that opened last weekend. This update is late so will try to put up the new box office chart sooner, which sees the face off yet again of mega blockbuster franchises Star Wars and Yokai Watch.

Opening at no. 1 is Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Rider, the 57th film of the franchise. The film mobilized 303,089 viewers (¥359,247,200) during its opening weekend. The Kamen Rider franchise films is largely fanbase driven and frontloaded but it marks a good start for the new film as it opens 32% higher than the previous film released same period last year.

 At no. 2 is Destiny: Kamakura Monogatari (Destiny: The Tale of Kamakura) starring Sakai Masato and Takahata Mitsuki. The film attracted 231,465 viewers and earned ¥297,203,000. Based on Saigan Ryohei’s manga, the film is directed Yamazaki Takashi, who also previously adapted Saigan’s manga series “San-chome no Yuhi” into movies. The film is a fantasy work set in Kamakura where humans, demons, monsters, and ghosts live together.

At no. 3 is mystery film Murder on the Orient Express directed by Kenneth Branagh based on the novel of Agatha Christie. The film stars a huge cast with Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, and Penelope Cruz. The film attracted 169,100 viewers (¥226,000,000) during the weekend.

Girls und Panzer das Finale Episode 01 is at no 4, selling 14% higher than the 2015 film with 118,798 admissions.
