Hey, Arama Japan! It’s Friday, so it’s Open Post time! Feel free to chat with your fellow readers about whatever you like! Enjoy!
Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, one of the most important leaders in Japan’s postwar history, died Friday after being shot while he was giving a speech in Nara. He was 67 years old.
As Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, Abe’s assassination just two days before the Upper House election has rocked Japan, with politicians from across the spectrum condemning the attack as an affront to democracy.
“I’m deeply saddened and lost for words,” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said with red, swollen eyes following the news of Abe’s death. “We lost a great leader who loved the nation, looked to the future, and made great achievements in various fields for the future of this country.”
Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of “Yu-Gi-Oh!”, was been found dead after a snorkeling trip in Okinawa Prefecture, according to a coast guard official Thursday.
A body that turned out to be the 60 year old was found off the coast on Wednesday. He was wearing a T-shirt and an underwater mask, snorkel and fins.
Media outlets, including NHK, said Takahashi was found around 300 meters offshore and pulled from the water. According to TBS, Takahashi was traveling in Okinawa alone. The channel also said that a car rental company contacted police on Wednesday night saying it could not reach him, prompting the coast guard to suspect the body was his.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Travis Japan would be venturing to Los Angeles to continue their training. Another opportunity has arisen for the group since going though! On July 12 at 8 PM EST, Travis Japan will make their American television debut on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” This will be the first time that a Johnny & Associates act has appeared on an American TV show since Shonentai appeared on “The Merv Griffin Show” in 1984.
Travis Japan were approached about appearing on “America’s Got Talent” after a representative of the show heard the buzz surrounding their performance at the “Orange County 2022” portion of the “World of Dance Championship” in March. The group filmed the show the following month.
XG, the new girl group under Avex subsidiary XGALX, released their second single, the English-language “MASCARA”, on June 29. Instead of promoting in Japan, where there are no plans for them to debut, the group has appeared on music shows in South Korea, where they trained for five years. These performances have been met with acclaim for the group’s high level of skill in terms of singing, rapping, dance, and visuals. Many KPop fans think that XG can become famous worldwide, like the KPop groups BLACKPINK and aespa.
The fact that XG was even able to get on a Korean terrestrial music show three months after their debut is a feat. JO1 and NiziU, two Japanese groups backed by Korean companies, have only appeared on cable music shows so far. This is because they sing in Japanese, unlike XG who sing in English. Songs with Japanese lyrics aren’t aired on Korean terrestrial television due to lingering bad feelings stemming from Japan’s colonization of Korea.
But this worldwide fame may not happen now, thanks to Avex’s CEO, Max Matsuura. In a recent livestream, he made several negative remarks about KPop. These comments were then translated into Korean, angering netizens.
