We’re back with this week’s edition of Oricon Flashback! This is where we look back on what topped the charts this week 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years ago. Think of it as a way to reminisce and learn about the past of Japanese music.

Popular rock quartet BUMP OF CHICKEN have confirmed that they will be releasing a new Live DVD/Blu-ray on November 4th. Titled “BUMP OF CHICKEN TOUR 2019 aurora ark Tokyo Dome”, the release will focus on the final performance of their last major tour.

Additionally, the group have announced that their new song “Gravity”, which is set to serve as the theme song for animated film “Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare”, will be released as a digital single this week. In conjunction with these reveals, both a music video for “Gravity” – directed by Kyoutaro Hayashi – and a live video of their song “Aurora” have been uploaded to the band’s YouTube channel.

Back in April, singer/songwriter Yuji Nakada released his latest full-length album “DOUBLE STANDARD“. Now he’s announced that he’ll be releasing another record – titled “PORTAS” – later this year: digitally on November 11th, and physically a week later on November 18th.

“PORTAS” consists entirely of songs that were written while the singer was in isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While further details about the album are scarce as of yet, Nakada has released new track “Kimi ga Tame ni” as a digital single this week.

This week veteran singer/songwriter Shogo Hamada released his latest single “MIRROR / DANCE” on September 9th. Both of the A-sides are re-recordings of songs originally issued on Hamada’s 1984 album “DOWN BY THE MAINSTREET”, marking the third such release where the singer has reinterpreted his own material.

In conjunction with the single’s release, a short PV for “DANCE” has been uploaded to his YouTube channel. The clip features recording footage where Hamada dances along to the music – and even includes English subtitles.

Seiko Matsuda is currently celebrating her 40th anniversary! On September 9, she’ll release a new self-penned digital single, “Kaze ni Mukau Ichirin no Hana.” The song sees her reuniting with Zaitsu Kazuo, the composer of her songs such as “Shiroi Parasol” and “Cherry Blossom”, after 37 years. The last song he composed for her was “Chiisa na Love Song”, from her 1983 album “Utopia.”

“Kaze ni Mukau Ichirin no Hana” is an expression of gratitude to Seiko’s fans for following her over the course of the past 40 years, as well as a promise to keep going. Seiko has released the music video for the song, which can be seen below!

“Kaze ni Mukau Ichirin no Hana” will be included on Seiko’s new 40th anniversary album, “SEIKO MATSUDA 2020”, out September 30. The album will largely consist of Seiko’s representative songs, but with new arrangements and vocals, along with some new songs. Check out more information on the album below!

On September 9, Aimyon will release her third album, “Oishii Pasta ga Aru to Kiite.” This is her first album since February 2019’s “Shunkanteki Sixth Sense.” The album will feature 12 songs, including the singles “Haru no Hi”, “Manatsu no Yoru no Nioi ga Suru”, “Sora no Aosa wo Shiru Hito yo”, and “Hadaka no Kokoro”, as well as the digital singles “Sayonara no Kyou ni” and “Chouyou.”

“Oishii Pasta ga Aru to Kiite” will be released in two editions, a regular CD only edition and a limited 2CD edition. The second CD of the limited edition will feature ten songs which Aimyon recorded in the dining room of POTATOSTUDIO, the studio where she normally records her music. This was done in an effort to give the songs a more homey vibe. One of the songs on this CD is the previously unreleased “Saraba.”

Aimyon recently released a series of behind the scenes videos for the recording of the second CD of the limited edition of her new album on her YouTube channel. She also recently released music videos for “Chouyou” and her new song “Marshmallow.” Check them out below, along with more information on her new album!

Girl group Perfume has released the MV for their highly anticipated new single “Time Warp“!. This is one of the many celebratory releases for the girls in 2020, as this year marks their 15th anniversary since making their major debut and 20th anniversary since the group was officially formed.

The MV takes place in a vibrantly colored space with, the members of Perfume interact with shadowed men who also serve as backup dancers. “Time Warp” was directed by Yusuke Tanaka who has previously worked with Namie Amuro, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and CHAI among others.

Tanaka also previously worked with Perfume for 5 other MVs including “Spring of Life” and “Spending all my time”. Unfortunately, only the short version of the MV has been uploaded for now. Check it out below!
