FiFi’s criticism on Sho Sakurai and NEWS ZERO causes an uproar on Twitter

On 18 August Sho Sakurai talked about the kidnapping of a Japanese man in Syria by the extremist Islamic State during his news corner “Ichimen”. He explained that the Islamic State has had influence from Al-Qaeda since 9/11 and in 2006, while Iraq was regularizing their activities and clearing away the border, the Sunni Islam (the world’s second largest religious body) wanted to create a new country.

FiFi’s majored in Middle East Politics, so when FiFi saw this news report, she wrote the following tweet (which has already been eliminated):

“The way the idol from NEWS ZERO came about the Islamic State = ISIS and the contents were complete nonsense. I’m particularly appalled when he said that the United States and Arabia Saudi were providing weapons to the Asad regime [in Syria], even though the US has not been involved. It’s some kind of cheap talk. This is why terrestrial broadcasting isn’t reliable.”

Hey! Say! JUMP Gets Funky with Weekender and Asu e no Yell PV

Hey! Say! JUMP’s new double A-side single Weekender/ Asu e no YELL’ (‘ウィークエンダー/明日へのYELL) drops September 3. Full PVs for both songs are also released.

As members have described, the colorful set of Weekender PV features slightly strange movements – an ‘animation dance’. There are scenes where they move fast then suddenly move very slow, presenting motion and stillness. The dance expresses through fingertips and arms rather than steps. On the other hand, Asu e no Yell PV features them in blue and white outfits dancing to the song’s youthful and summer-ish tone. Part of the choreography is likened to a cheering song.

Weekender and Asu e no YELL are both currently serving as theme songs for member- led dramas ‘Kindaichi Neo’ and ‘Suikyuu Yankees’, starring…well, the respective PVs quite make that obvious already. Check them out below.

Kumicky and Popteen editor interviewed about the future of Gyaru

Popular model Kumiko Funayama, also lovingly known as Kumicky, has worked for over 6 years for Popteen magazine as the ‘God of Gyaru’. As she outgrew the Popteen demographic, she realized she should welcome new experiences and has already already graduated as an exclusive model last model, her last issue being this October’s Issue.

In the past we have featured articles trying to figure out why all these fashion magazines, specifically Gyaru, are dying out. In an interview with modelpress, Kumicky and the new editor of Popteen sat down and discussed the magazine’s future and the future of Gyaru style, and Kumicky herself explains how it changed her life.

Gyaru has boasted a long lifespan, but in recent years, the style has been disappearing from the streets. The model and editor have taken notice to this, and conclude that this disappearance from the streets has to do with the idol boom started by AKB48. These groups have their own specific look that is sought out after: pure and innocent, everything Gyaru is not. There have been attempts to bring it back to the music world, though more mature acts like SDN48, but they quickly disbanded and seen as failures.

TeddyLoid reveals new PV, will open for Foxes in Japan

Following the release of his debut EP UNDER THE BLACK MOON and its promotional clip for lead track ‘Forever Love’ last month, electronic musician TeddyLoid has returned with fresh material: this time, a music video for ‘Black Moon Sympathy’ off his upcoming full-length record BLACK MOON RISING on September 17th.

The PV was directed by Sayaka Nakane, known for her work with artists like MISIA and Quruli, and features model and essayist Hanae as “queen of the black moon” where the story of his album takes place. The zero-gravity scenes were filmed entirely underwater in a diving pool, giving the finished visuals a mysterious atmosphere.
