Oricon Flashback: Week of 5/25

We’re back with this week’s edition of Oricon Flashback. This is where we look back on what topped Oricon this week 5, 10, 15, and 20 years ago. Think of it as a way to reminisce and learn about the past of Japanese music.

Negoto Releases PV for “DESTINY”

On June 3, Negoto will release their new single “DESTINY.” “DESTINY” is the ending theme for the TV Tokyo anime series “Gintama°”, which premiered on April 8. The single comes in 3 editions: a CD+DVD Limited Edition, a CD only Limited Anime Edition, and a CD only Regular Edition. The DVD that comes with the CD+DVD Limited Edition features footage from the band’s tour from earlier this year. The Limited Anime Edition features the anime ending version of “DESTINY”, plus the song’s instrumental. All editions of the single feature a remix of the band’s 2013 single “Synchromanica” done by the band’s guitarist Masuda Mizuki.

Negoto recently released the music video for “DESTINY.” The video for the upbeat song shows that things often happen for a reason. That a delay of a few seconds can have can have a very different outcome on life. Check out the video after the jump along with the single’s covers and tracklists.

Fukushi Sota to star in the next Getsu9 drama “Koinaka”

Actor Fukushi Sota will be starring in Fuji TV’s next Getsu9 drama “Koinaka” (tentative title) in July. It has been 4 years since his debut as an actor and it will be his first time starring in a primetime drama. Fukushi “I do not feel so much anxiety or pressure, it’s more interest, curiosity and excitement”.

Fukushi has appeared in various works- dramas Kamen Rider Fourze (TV Asahi), Amachan (NHK), Kyou Wa Kaisha Yasumimasu (NTV), and movies Kamisama no iu tori and Strobe Edge.

Fukushi plays the protagonist Miura Aoi, who was born and raised in Toyama Prefecture. He leaves Toyama and works as an assistant at an architectural firm in Tokyo. One summer day, he was reunited with his first love and childhood friend, Serizawa Akari. Aoi starts realizing what real love is with the help of people involved around him.

The role of Akari will be announced at a later date.

Full Trailer for Suspense Thriller “Yokokuhan” starring Ikuta Toma

Check out the full trailer for the movie “Yokokuhan” starring Ikuta Toma. The movie opens on June 6, 2015.

Yokokuhan is a suspense-thriller depicting terrorism using the internet. It tells the story of a mysterious man who posts his “prophecies” on the internet, which includes the worst type of crimes. Ikuta will play a man named Gates, head of ‘Shinbunshi’ organization. He hides his face, except his eyes, with a mask made of newspaper and punishes those who were freed from police judgement.

“Umimachi Diary” Cast at the 68th Cannes Film Festival

The official screening and press conference of the movie “Umimachi diary” at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival held on May 14 was attended by the cast- Ayase Haruka, Nagasawa Masami, Kaho and Hirose Suzu and its director Koreeda Hirokazu. The team walked on the red carpet before the screening.

The movie, with the international title “Our Little Sister”, is chosen to compete against 18 other films for the festival’s most prestigious award, the Palme d’Or. Koreeda Hirokazu ’s 2013 film “Soshite Chichi ni Naru” (Like Father, Like Son) starring Fukuyama Masaharu won the Jury Prize at the festival.

“It’s a beautiful film, classically Japanese in terms of lifestyle. It depicts the beauty of the seasons. I’m eager to see how it will be welcomed in the West,” said lead actress Ayase Haruka.
