Johnny’s West and V6 top the Weekly Oricon Charts! 7/27-8/2

The Oricon physical music sales charts for the week of  7/27-8/2 have been released!

Seven-member Johnny’s Entertainment boyband Johnny’s West  have topped the singles charts with Bari Hapi, a summer-themed pop number with a dance by famous choreographer Lucky Ikeda. Their fourth single sold 100,502 copies in its first week.

Finally ousting DREAMS COME TRUE from their reign of number one position for the past few weeks, V6 take the top of the albums chart with their 3rd best album called SUPER Very best. Consisting of tracks from their debut in 1995 all the way until now, the hits of their 20 year career compiled sold 152,490 this past week.

Who Do People in Their Teens to 30s Want to See Live?

Summer is festival season, with many live events taking place during the hotter months of the year. On July 6 & 7, music magazine CD & DL Data surveyed 1875 people online in an attempt to figure out who people want to see live. These participants included both men (797) and women (1078) They were composed of people in their teens, 20s, and 30s. Participants were from all 47 of Japan’s prefectures.

Arashi took the top spot, garnering 90% of the female votes. On the other hand, B’z took the #3 spot by garnering more than half of the male vote. Mr.Children came in second place and was popular with voters in their 30s, while the fourth place BUMP OF CHICKEN was popular with voters in their 20s. Southern All Stars took fifth place in part because of their popularity with men in their 30s.

Sexy Covers Released For Maimi Yajima’s New Photobook “Nobody Knows 23”

The leader of Hello!Project and C-ute Maimi Yajima, is set to release her new photobook “Nobody Knows 23” on August 21st.

For this photobook the concept takes a “further polish” to Maimi’s natural beauty as a 23 year old adult woman. The photos were all shot at the Shimizu-ku Shizuoka ward showcasing it’s beautiful beaches and harbor. For this photobook Maimi played a large role in what photos would be selected for the finished product, incorporating many “dramatic” photoshoot scenes. This ain’t your average bikini photobook! #artpop

The photobook will be released in two versions. One standard edition available at all the usual retailers, and a limited edition available exclusively at amazon.jp. All content is the same except for the cover, both versions also come with a making-of DVD. Check out the covers for “Nobody Knows 23” below!

Sandaime J Soul Brothers Release PV for “Unfair World”

On September 2, Sandaime J Soul Brothers will release their new single, “Unfair World.” The song serves as the theme  for the new Shinohara Ryoko film “Unfair the end”, in theaters September 5.

The group has now released the music video for “Unfair World.” It was directed by Kiriya Kazuaki, who is known for directing many of his ex-wife Utada Hikaru’s music videos. It’s a sad video, with the members watching over and protecting young women. These women are played by Ishii Anna of E-girls and model Urahama Alisa. In the clip, the members of Sandaime J Soul Brothers appeal to viewers through their emotional acting, rather than their usual dance routines. Check it out after the jump!

Kis-My-Ft2’s Tamamori Yuta to Cover anan’s Annual “Love and Sex” Issue

The “Love and Sex” issue of anan is a popular yearly edition. Year after year, desirable male stars strip off their clothes to tantalize readers. Past issues have featured sexy photoshoots from the likes of Yamashita Tomohisa, Sakurai Sho, and Kimura Takuya. This year’s issue will feature Kis-My-Ft2 member Tamamori Yuta. He’s following in the footsteps of his groupmate Fujigaya Taisuke, who was featured in the 2013 edition. The full group was featured in a sexy anan spread late last year.

Yuta’s photoshoot has the theme of a sensual day spent in a hotel room. In the magazine, out August 7, Yuta can be seen in bed and in the shower. To prepare for the shoot, he spent the past few months training his body. Three days before the shoot, he went on a minimal diet. These efforts resulted in six pack abs and a firm butt. Celebrities make a pitch for baseball at the Olympics

The Baseball Federation of Japan, Japan Softball Association, and Nippon Professional Baseball launches an official campaign to “Make baseball and softball an official event at the Tokyo Olympics!” also known as the #Catchball project. A large number of celebrities participated in the CM which was also published at the campaign’s official Youtube account.

The star-studded CM features personalities from different fields, from baseball players to celebrities. The background music is “Shout” by Japanese rock band, TRICERATOPS.  The song was newly written for the project.

Sakanaction to release a brand new single in September

Previously we reported that electronic-rock act Sakanaction’s new song “Shin Takarajima” was set to be used as the theme song for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular manga series Bakuman.  At the time no information about the track’s release had been made public, but the band have now confirmed that the song will be released as a maxi-single on September 30th of this year.

The group’s 11th single, “Shin Takarajima” will be issued in three versions:  a regular CD-Only edition, a CD+DVD edition which will include both a Special Movie and the Making-Of footage for this feature, and a deluxe 2CD+DVD boxed edition which contains an additional disc with all of the music that the band composed for the Bakuman movie merged together into a single 30+ minute track titled “MOTION MUSIC OF BAKUMAN.”.  Of note, this marks the first time that Sakanaction have ever worked on the soundtrack for a motion picture.

There will be two additional songs included on the single, with those details scheduled to be announced at a later date along with the visual style for the cover.
