Girl group Fairies have dropped the new MV for their single HEY HEY ~Light Me Up~
This is the girls 16th single overall, and this time they have decided to do God’s work by trying to make Eurobeat a thing again. HEY HEY ~Light Me Up~ is actually a cover of the 1993 hit song Hey Hey, by Vanessa. Fairies version is slightly updated for the modern audience, all while still staying very true to the original version.
In usual Fairies fashion one of major highlights of the MV is the complex and impressive choreography done by the girls. For the MV they joined forced with akane, the mastermind behind the Tomioka Dance Club video on Youtube. Last year it became a viral sensation all across Japan, so far it has amassed over 42 million views.
HEY HEY ~Light Me Up~ will be released in two CD+DVD versions, one CD only, and then five solo member versions. The b-side to be included in all the singles still hasn’t been determined yet. DVD editions will include the full HEY HEY ~Light Me Up~, making of footage, and a digest movie from their 2017 live tour STAR. It will hit Japanese store shelves on Feburary 28th, 2018.
The MV and all of the single covers can be seen below.
Rookie band GIRLFRIEND is preparing for the release of their debut studio album CHOCOLATE.
The average age of the band is only 17 years old. The girls continually work hard on perfecting their instruments, performance abilities, and musical craftsmanship. All four of them lend a hand in songwriting duties for all of their material.
Back in December 2015 they released their very first indie single called 360, they soon caught the attention of various record labels and agencies. In 2016 they secured a contract with Avex and released their first single in November 2016, a double A-side titled 15/Hide & Seek. Two more singles were released in 2017 leading up to the release of CHOCOLATE.
Following the release of their best album last year, veteran pop-rock band BIGMAMA have revealed that they will be signing up with a major record label for the first time in their career. The group have decided to partner with Universal Music Japan and will be releasing their first major single on March 7th.
The release’s lead track, “Strawberry Feels”, has already been selected as the theme song for the currently airing drama “Kakegurui”. A teaser featuring both scenes from this drama, as well as video of BIGMAMA working in the studio, has also been uploaded to their new label’s Youtube channel.

Stardust Promotion, home to such notable acts as YUI, Momoiro Clover Z and ORANGE RANGE, has launched a new idol group, Himitsu no Otome. The idol group was formed in 2017, and it consists of three members: Natsuki, Gorina and KOKORO. What makes them special is that they market themselves as “rainbow idols”: all of them are transgender women, who seem to be involved in the LGBT scene. They will have their first live on February 27th.
Himitsu no Otome’s Stardust profile page introduces them as being “sometimes cool, sometimes cute”. The profile page also states the following: “Being different is ok! Aiming towards a time when words such as ‘lgbt’ have disappeared.” The latter part probably means they hope to see a world where it isn’t necessary to label people based on their sexual orientation or sexual identity anymore. So far so good – let’s hope they have enough vocal skills and sass to attract audiences.
