Did Hinatazaka46 plagiarize Koda Kumi?

The 4th sister group of Nogizaka46  made their official debut on March 27th. Hinatazaka46, formerly known as Hiragana Keyakizaka46 introduced themselves to the world with the single “Kyun“.

It’s already been quite a success, debuting at #1 and has thus far sold over 476, 239 units. However, some netizens found that “Kyun” sounds very similar to Koda Kumi‘s song “Lady Go!

April Fools’: Oricon to Ban Handshake Tickets and Enact It Retroactively

To coincide with the announcent of the new era that begins on May 1 being named “Reiwa”, Oricon made an announcement of its own today. After years of complaints by the music listening public and as a means of keeping its relevancy, Oricon has decided that it will no longer count CDs which include handshake tickets. This new policy will go into effect on the first day of the Reiwa era, May 1. But this new rule doesn’t just apply to future releases; it’s also being applied to past releases.

This week, Matsuri nine. topped the Combined Single chart with their single “Uchoten Shooter”, with 75,665 points in its first weekt.

Morning Musume. ’19 topped the Combined Album chart with their new best album “Best! Morning Musume 20th Anniversary”, with 35,079 points in its first week.

Matsuri nine. also topped the Single chart with “Uchoten Shooter”, selling 75,020 copies in its first week.

Morning Musume. ’19 also topped the Album chart with “Best! Morning Musume 20th Anniversary”, selling 34,345 copies in its first week.

back number retook the top spot on the Digital Single chart with their single “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, topping it for the third non-consecutive week and selling 47,152 copies in its fourth week.

Aimyon topped the Digital Album chart with their album “Shunkanteki Sixth Sense”, selling 1,612 copies in its sixth week.

Aimyon also topped the Streaming chart for the 12th consecutive week with her single “Marigold”, with 2,326,568 streams in the chart’s 15th week.

New Japanese Imperial Era “Reiwa” to Start May 1st

Japan has revealed the name “Reiwa” as the nation’s new era, replacing the Heisei period which lasted 30 years, Reuters reports.

The new era will start on May 1, 2019, the day after Emperor Akihito is expected to abdicate the Chrysanthemum Throne, when his son, Naruhito, will ascend the throne as the 126th Emperor. The name will identify this time for the duration of his rule and become his official name after death.

Tomohisa Yamashita to cover “anan” magazine again

The latest cover boy for popular magazine anan has been revealed, and it’s none other than Tomohisa Yamashita. His issue will be available nationwide in Japan beginning on April 10th.

Yamapi’s interview theme will be about “upgrading”. He’s always looking to improve his skill as an entertainer, and broaden his horizons in general which he likes to achieve by traveling. Besides the interview, anon says to look forward to Yamapi’s various “expressions” and costumes as he poses for his gravure shots!

Ayumi Hamasaki stomps competition in Yahoo’s Heisei era queen survey

Yahoo!Japan held a public survey asking their readers who was the definite female solo artist that represents the Heisei era (January 1989 – May 2019). Who is the queen!

The survey proved to be extremely popular, as it received a massive 158,000 votes. Yahoo! Japan provided 8 female artists to choose from, with the 9th being “Other/ I don’t know”. The voting was very one sided for two artists, you can probably guess who they are, absolutely dominating the poll numbers as they battled it out for number 1.
