Coronavirus has taken its toll on the Japanese music industry, with live events being cancelled left and right in an effort to stop the spread of the virus. Avex has decided to give a gift to fans during this time by posting 100 live videos on its main YouTube channel, as well as those of its artists. This limited time event starts on March 5 and ends on March 31. The first videos posted include concerts by Ayumi Hamasaki, AAA, Ai Otsuka, Do As Infinity, Ami Suzuki, and Koda Kumi. Another Japanese act is bringing their music to international fans live! RADWIMPS is set to embark on their world tour, “RADWIMPS World Tour 2020”, this summer! So far, the dates for the North American leg of the tour have been announced. More regions are set to be announced at a later date. Check out the confirmed dates below!

Akiko Yano and Agatsuma Hiromitsu have formed a new unit, Yano to Agatsuma. The two met in New York City in 2013 when Yano went to see Agatsuma perform. Their friendship has developed since then, with the two working together often.

On March 4, Yano to Agatsuma will release their debut album, “Asteroid and Butterfly.” The album features Yano’s piano, Agatsuma’s shamisen, and vocals by both. “Asteroid and Butterfly” is a mixture of old and new, with folk songs now having an electronic arrangement.

On March 4, Kaela Kimura will release her new mini album, “ZIG ZAG.” The focal point of the release is the song “Tokei no Hari ~Aishite mo Anata ga Toku naru no~”, which serves as the theme song for the TV Asahi drama “Alibi Kuzushi Uketamawarimasu.”

“ZIG ZAG” also includes a remix of “Tokei no Hari ~Aishite mo Anata ga Toku naru no~” done by VaVa, as well as a song featuring BIM.

This week, Hinatazaka46 topped the Hot 100 single chart with their new single “Sonna Koto Nai yo”, with 36,084 points in its first week.

AAA topped the Hot Albuma chart with their new best album “AAA 15th Anniversary All Time Best -thanx AAA lot-.”

Official HIGE DANdism topped the Streaming Songs chart for the second consecutive week with “I LOVE…”

Official HIGE DANdism also retook the top spot on the Digital Single chart with their single “I LOVE…”, topping the chart for the third non-consecutive week.

BTS topped the Download Albums chart with their new album “Map Of The Soul: 7.”

Rock quartet FLOWER FLOWER, led by singer/songwriter yui, have revealed that they will be releasing a new studio album on March 25th. Titled “Target”, this will be the group’s third record together and their first since 2018’s “Spotlight”.

“Target” will include 12 new songs from the band; of particular note are “Atsui Aitsu” and “Futari”, which will feature guest vocals from odol frontman Ryou Mizobe. These collaborations came about as a result of yui and Mizobe’s work on the theme song for film “100 YEARS TRAIN”: a mash-up of Quruli’s “Bara no Hana” and Sakanaction’s “Native Dancer”.

Singer/songwriter Shingo Kanehiro (Good Morning America / Asuralbert II) has announced that he will be releasing his first album as a solo artist on March 18th. Titled “Hajimari no Uta”, this record will contain six songs which mark a sonic departure from his work with either of his bands.

A taste of this is available in his music video for the release’s opening track “Kimi wa Dou?”, which pairs Kanehiro’s plaintive singing with the painting of artist Kazutoshi Nakagawa. The remainder of the album’s songs will have similar PVs produced for each of them.

Earlier this year singer/songwriter Ryuuta Shibuya, better known as the frontman for rock band SUPER BEAVER, announced that he would be starting a solo project under the moniker Gyakutarou Shibuya. Following up on the release of his first digital single – “sakayume” – Shibuya has now published the PV for his second such release, titled “the curb”.

This clip, directed by Youhei Haga, contrasts scenes of Shibuya’s singing with the dancing of model Bambi Naka, who is known for her work with Shiina Ringo and Madonna. Of note, both “sakayume” and “the curb” were produced by George of electronic/dance group MOP of HEAD.
