On the single side, μ’s / Ayase Eri, Tojo Nozomi, Yazawa Niko topped the chart with “SUNNY DAY SONG / ?←HEARTBEAT”, with its 1 CD only edition selling 86,999 copies. However, the best selling single this week was Sandaime J Soul Brothers’ “Summer Madness.” Between the 2 editions of this single, “Summer Madness” sold 108,310 copies, making it the best selling album this week.
On the album side, DREAMS COME TRUE took the top spot with “DREAMS COME TRUE THE BEST! Watashi no Dorikamu”, with its 1 3CD edition selling 273,836 copies. This made it the best selling album this week.
Up-and-coming rock band KANA-BOON have announced that they will be releasing a new single titled “Diver” on August 5th. The lead song has already been confirmed as the theme song for the upcoming animated film “BORUTO -NARUTO THE MOVIE-” and “Spiral”, one of the B-sides, has been picked up as the image song for “Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4”, the latest in the line of video games tied to the series.
In support of this new release the band have also revealed the full music video for “Diver”, which combines shots of the members performing with scenes of the group training in spacesuits, their ultimate goal to save the world from a meteorite impact. In particular, the video appears to focus on the idea of one being willing to take that necessary step forward into the unknown.

The Oricon physical music sales charts for the week of 7/6 – 7/12 has been released!
For the singles chart, Sandaime J Soul Brothers tops the chart with their 18th single “Summer Madness” arranged by Dutch DJ and music producer Afrojack. The song is currenlty being used for ANA’s 2015 “Natsu no Tabiwari” campaign and sold 194,883 copies in its first week.
Japanese pop-rock group DREAMS COME TRUE released DREAMS COME TRUE THE BEST! Watashi no Dorikamu, their seventh best album and latest in four years, shooting to the top of the album charts pushing 344,395 units. The album boasts a nearly 4 hour run time and is spread out into 3 concept-driven disks: love, tears, and life.

The 8th CD Shop Awards 2016 has released its nominee list for the first half of 2015. Ten albums were picked that were released between January 1 and June 30. The albums were chosen by CD shop staff across Japan to highlight releases that caught their discerning ears. Another 10 albums released from July 1 to December 31 will be chosen next February. The 20 albums nominated for 2015 will then be narrowed down to a list of 10 final nominees before the winner is chosen next March. Check out the albums nominated for the first half of 2015!
Sandaime J Soul Brothers topped both Recochoku and iTunes this week with their new single “Summer Madness.”
On August 5, Sakanaction is set to release the concept album “Natsukashii Tsuki wa Atarashii Tsuki ~Coupling & Remix works~.“ The album is composed of B-sides / unreleased material and remixes. A partial tracklist was previously available, and now the full one is available.
The 4 previously unknown songs on the first CD, the coupling and unreleased CD, include a 2006 version of “GO TO THE FUTURE” (made when the band was composed only of frontman Ichiro Yamaguchi and guitarist Motoharu Iwadera) and 3 remixes of older songs done by different band members. “Nightfishing Is Good” is being remixed by Motoharu, “Music” by drummer Keiichi Ejima, and “Identity” by bassist Ami Kusakari.
Details on the previously unknown 3 tracks on the second CD, the remix CD, have now been revealed. It will feature a new remix of “Sayonara wa Emotion” by Qrion, and a new remix of “Yoru no Odoriko” by agraph. It will also feature the NEXT WORLD REMIX of “Goodbye.” This version of the song was performed by Sakanaction on the January 3 episode of NHK’s “NEXT WORLD Watashitachi no Mirai.”
There are also more details about the DVD / Blu-ray that comes with the Limited Editions. In the documentary about the 2006 version of “GO TO THE FUTURE”, Ichiro and Motoharu go back to the live house where they recorded this version of the song and recreate it. There’s also a binaural recording of it. Music videos for “years”, “Slow Motion”, “Holy Dance”, and “Eureka (minimal demo)” are also included on these discs. Ichiro directed the music video for “Holy Dance”, a first for him.
Today, the band released the music video for “years.” This song was originally the B-side on the band’s 2011 single “‘Bach no Senritsu wo Yoru ni Kiita Sei Desu.'” The song deals with the anxieties faced by people after the events of March 11, 2011. The music video for the song combines the sentiments expressed in the song with the scenery of today’s Tokyo. Check it out after the jump along with the album’s tracklist!
On July 29, jazz pop singer Toki Asako will release her new album, “Bittersweet.” This is her first studio album since 2013’s “HEARTBREAKIN’.” The theme of “Bittersweet” is that of a busy woman living in city who’s also in love. “Bittersweet” looks to be the soundtrack to her life. Asako brought in Jane Su as the concept producer for this album. Jane also co-wrote the album’s opening track, “C’est La Vie ~Onna wa Ai ni Isogashii~”, with Asako. Asako was in charge of the rest of the album’s lyrics. “Bittersweet” was largely composed and arranged by Watanabe Shunsuke of post-jazz band Schroeder-Headz. “Bittersweet” also sees input from Tomi Yo, Hashiguchi Nanome, and Kawaguchi Daisuke. Asako was also in charge of the albums covers, seeing as how they are self portraits that she created by using the camera’s remote shutter release feature.
“Bittersweet” comes in 2 editions: a CD+DVD Limited Edition and a CD only Regular Edition. The DVD that comes with the Limited Edition features footage from Asako’s 2014 Valentine’s Day show with Schroeder-Headz at Tokyo Cinema Club. At this show, Asako performed several of her own songs, but also did some covers by acts such as DE DE MOUSE and Perfume. She recently released a clip of her performing her cover of Perfume’s “Chocolate Disco.” That video can be seen after the jump! On August 5, DANCE EARTH PARTY will release their 3rd single, “BEAUTIFUL NAME.” It is a cover of GODIEGO’s 1979 hit. For this single, group members USA and TETSUYA of EXILE will participate, along with Dream’s Shizuka. Imaichi Ryuji of Sandaime J Soul Brothers will feature on vocals for this single. The song also features Jamaican ska band The Skatalites, who arranged the song.
The music video for “BEAUTIFUL NAME” was recently released. It’s a colorful, happy clip that matches the song’s warmth. It’s a mix of live action and animation. It takes place in a fantasy land full of happy, dancing children.
In related news, Ryuji’s group Sandaime J Soul Brothers will release their new single “Unfair World” on September 2. It serves as the theme song for the Shinohara Ryoko film “Unfair the end”, in theaters September 5. It is the group’s first ballad since last fall’s “C.O.S.M.O.S. ~Akizakura~.”
