Massively popular anime series Yuri!!! on Ice has been garnering fans from around the world since its premiere in the Fall 2016 season.  Centering around the competitive figure skating career of Japanese male figure skater Yuri Katsuki and coach/gold-medalist Victor Nikiforov, Yuri!!! on Ice has captured the hearts of anime fans, non-anime fans, and even real professional figure skaters such as Johnny Weir and Evgenia Medvedeva.  The series’ first season came to a conclusion on December 21, and the internet is buzzing!!

Utada Hikaru, JUJU, Sukima Switch, and More Join Oda Kazumasa for Christmas Yakusoku 2016

Today, TBS aired this year’s edition of Oda Kazumasa’s annual Christmas concert, Christmas Yakusoku. The concert was held on December 16 at Tokyo’s Akasaka BLITZ. Oricon unveils their Yearly Sales Rankings for 2016

Today statistics-tracking company Oricon Inc. published its complete end of the year report, which reveals all of the sales data that it collected for the year 2016.  This includes the five top earning acts for the year, as well as the yearly single, album, music DVD, and music Blu-ray charts.

This year’s top five selling acts, and their total gross for the year (in yen) are as follows:

  1. Arashi (¥12,183,000,000)
  2. Sandaime J Soul Brothers (¥8,256,000,000)
  3. Nogizaka46 (¥7,437,000,000)
  4. AKB48 (¥6,947,000,000)
  5. Kanjani8 (¥4,788,000,000)

Arashi also managed to top this year’s Album chart with “Are You Happy?”, as well as the yearly Music Blu-ray chart with their “ARASHI LIVE TOUR 2015 Japonism’”.  Meanwhile, Sandaime J Soul Brothers topped the yearly Music DVD chart with their “Sandaime J Soul Brothers LIVE TOUR 2015 ‘BLUE PLANET'” and AKB48 found themselves atop the yearly Singles ranking with “Tsubasa wa Iranai”, making it the 7th year in a row that they’ve had Japan’s best selling single.

BIGMAMA to release new album “Fabula Fibula” in March

Veteran pop rock band BIGMAMA have just announced that they will be releasing a brand new album titled “Fabula Fibula” on March 22nd.  The group’s seventh studio record, “Fabula Fibula” will include previously released songs like “MUTOPIA”, “Specials”, and “Weekend Magic”, as well as new tracks like “PUMA THE MISSION – Run The Night” theme song “Make Up Your Mind”.

In addition, the band have also revealed the music video for another of the album’s new songs, “Merry-Go-Round”, on their Youtube channel.  This PV focuses upon a couple attempting to spin each other out of their traditional Japanese clothing, which is played up for comedic effect.

Hey! Say! JUMP drops PV for first ballad single “Give Me Love”

Hey! Say! JUMP’s “Give Me Love” is a song about conflicts and love that all of us experience in our lives, which are universal and grand themes. Set on a mellow R&B sound, Hey! Say! JUMP sings about the “true love”. The song was used as the theme song for Yamada Ryosuke’s drama “Cain and Abel”.

This is the group’s first ballad as an A-side so expect some drama in the music video. Check it out below.
