The prestigious Berlin Film Festival has announced it’s first set of films that will be shown at the festival, among the 11 films listed was River’s Edge starring Fumi Nikaido and Ryo Yoshizawa.
Based off of the 1993 manga series by Kyoko Okazaki, the film follows the friendship between two high school students Haruna Wakagusa (Fumi Nikaido) and Ichiro Yamada (Ryo Yoshizawa). Wakagusa lives with her mother and has the typical gripes of a high school student her age. Yamada is openly gay and is constantly bullied and physically assaulted by one of his classmates. Wakagusa stands up to the bully, and the two form a very close bond.
As the two get closer Yamada shares one of his closest secrets with Wakagusa, he found a dead body by the riverside. Not long after another body is found. Just like the original manga series, the film hopes to encapsulate all the desires, anxiety, and frustration high school students faced living in the city during the 90s.
River’s Edge will make it’s debut at the Berlin Film Festival on February 15th, 2018. It will be screened at select theaters the following day in Japan. Watch the trailer below!

From December 7 – 10, this year’s Grand Prix Final took place in Nagoya. This was the final event in the International Skating Union’s 2017 – 2018 Grand Prix Series. Japan sent 3 skaters to this competition, with Shoma Uno placing second in the men’s competition.
Shoma finished second with a total score of 286.01, 0.50 points behind American Nathan Chen. Shoma’s short program received a score of 101.51, putting him in second place, 1.81 points behind Nathan. Shoma completed a triple axel cleanly, but then weirdly fell at the very end of the landing, costing him a point. “I made a ‘new type of mistake’ today,” Shoma said. “The triple axel is a jump I know I can land. I felt I didn’t take off in the way I usually do. So I tightened myself hard in the air and I don’t know what happened. Maybe over-rotation.” He lost another point for finishing his program after the allotted time. After the Internationaux de France, Shoma made small changes which requires more time for his step sequence.“I changed the music a bit and started today’s program slightly earlier. I was not surprised by the 101 points, but I was more surprised by the two-point deduction.”

Talent & model Akemi Darenogare has found success in the fashion industry, her new clothing line CAROME has completely sold out in under 1 week. The name is based off of the Italian word for dear, “caro”. She then mixed it with the English word “me”.
For weeks Darenogare has been teasing the collection on her various social media accounts, before finally officially launching the brand in early December. CAROME consists of non-flashy jewelry, earrings and studs. The only two clothing items released thus far is a white/black t-shirt and crewneck sweater with the CAROME logo.
Critics and fans have praised CAROME for it’s simplicity, while the items aren’t doing anything new in the fashion scene the subtle approach Darenogare has taken with her first collection is a bit refreshing. Despite the good reviews, critics are wondering if CAROME will continue to thrive after the original hype has died down.
