The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the world, and the Japanese entertainment industry is no different. While live events have resumed to an extent, things aren’t back to normal. Earlier in the pandemic, live events weren’t allowed for several months. As a reaction to the decrease in revenue due to months of no live events, Avex has decided to cut some of their expenditures. This is currently coming in the form of voluntary retirements.

Avex has asked about 100 employees to voluntarily retire, about 6% of its staff. The employees that it’s targeting with this offer are the 443 who are age 40 or older and working in the music department.

This month on the download side, four songs from 2020 were certified Gold for selling 100,000 downloads: Official HIGE DANdism‘s “Laughter” & “HELLO”, GReeeeN‘s “Hoshikage no Yell”, and YOASOBI‘s “Harujion.”

Also two songs were certified Million for selling 1,000,000 downloads: Offical HIGE DANdism’s “Pretender” and Masaharu Fukuyama‘s “Kazoku ni Narou yo.”

This month on the streaming side, four songs from 2020 were certified Gold for reaching 50,000,000 streams: DISH//‘s “Neko ~THE FIRST TAKE ver.~”, YOASOBI’s “Harujion”, Yonezu Kenshi‘s “Kanden”, and Rinne‘s “snow jam.”

Eight songs from 2020 were certified Silver this month for reaching 30,000,000 streams: Official HIGE DANdism’s “Laughter”, BTS‘ “Stay Gold” & “Dynamite”, BLACKPINK‘s “How You Like That”, YOASOBI’s “Ano Yume wo Nazotte”, Yonezu Kenshi’s “Lemon”, RADWIMPS‘ “Kimi to Hitsuji to Ao”, and The Chainsmokers & Arata Mackenyu‘s “Closer (Tokyo Remix).”

Back in October we reported that singer/songwriter Yumi Matsutoya would be releasing a new studio album titled “Shinkai no Machi” on December 1st. As this date slowly approaches, Matsutoya has chosen to unveil the remaining details concerning the record online.

“Shinkai no Machi” will run 12 tracks in length – up from the originally announced 11 – and include the previously released title song, five more tracks that have already been revealed, and six new songs. A PV for “Shiranai Doushi”, which is currently serving as the theme song for TBS drama “Koisuru Hahatachi”, has also been uploaded to Matsutoya’s YouTube channel.
