Japan Week in New York

From February 18 – 20, Japan Week will be taking place in New York’s renowned Grand Central Terminal.

This will be the fourth time the event is being held since its 2012 inception. Japan Week was created by the Japan National Tourism Organization as a means to boost tourism to Japan.

The train station’s iconic Vanderbilt Hall will be turned into a mini-Japan of sorts. At this 3 day event, visitors can learn about the new Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train (which begins service next month), try Japanese food at the makeshift depachika, and watch a luxury kimono wedding, among other things.

MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON, which was created by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s management company ASOBI SYSTEM, will have a booth there, as will other entities such as NHK World, Seiko, and Delta Airlines.

Speaking of NHK World, the channel’s fashion program “Tokyo Fashion Express” will be reporting on the event for its March 30 episode. Speaking of fashion, neo-gyaru icon Alisa Ueno will be making an appearance at the event to talk about style. She will be in town to take part in the New York Fashion Week event “TOKYO RUNWAY meets NEW YORK.” At this inaugural event, 7 Japanese labels will be showing their collections in an effort to generate international interest in Japanese fashion.
