Hello Arama Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw AKB48 beat out E-girls. AKB48 is back again this week, going against 2 newcomers. Find out what various staff members thought of the songs that topped the physical and digital charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!
A few weeks ago, a new smartphone CM starring Shiina Ringo debuted. In the commercial, a new song, “Kamisama, Hotokesama”, could be heard. Today, Ringo released information about the release of that song. It will be the second A-side on a double A-side single titled “Nagaku Mijikai Matsuri / Kamisama, Hotokesama.” This single will be released on August 5. Both songs will be released digitally beforehand though, with “Nagaku Mijikai Matsuri” out on July 10 and “Kamisama, Hotokesama” out on July 31.
“Nagaku Mijikai Matsuri” is the CM song for Coca Cola’s summer campaign. It’s described as a Brazilian-flavored dance tune. It features vocals by Ringo’s former Tokyo Jihen bandmate Ukigumo. The CM makes its television debut this coming Monday. It has made its way online already though and can seen after the jump along with the single’s cover!
On the single side, Bodan Shonen Dan topped the chart with “FOR YOU”, with its CD only Regular Edition selling 44,750 copies. Between its 3 editions, “FOR YOU” sold 72,086 copies, making it the best selling single this week.
On the album side, Golden Bomber took the top spot with “NO MUSIC NO WEAPON”, with its CD+DVD Edition selling 33,854 copies. However, the best selling album this week was Mr.Children’s “REFLECTION.” Between the 2 editions of this album, “REFLECTION” sold 45,157 copies, making it the best selling album this week.
The Oricon physical music sales charts for the week of 6/15-6/21 have been released!
Korean boy group Bangtan Boys (also BTS, Bulletproof Boy Scouts, Boudan Shounendan, etc) are definitely on their come-up in Japan. Their fourth single “FOR YOU” was released this past week and topped the charts selling over 72,000 copies, well exceeding their previous first week sales of a little under 49k back in November of last year.
This week, Air Visual Kei band Golden Bomber brings an album for the first time in three and a half years, finally coming in at the weekly number 1 spot with “No Music No Weapon” selling 48,226 units.

Fuji TV’s midyear music special FNS Uta no Natsu Matsuri will air on July 29 at 7 PM JST. It will take place at Tokyo’s Yoyogi National Gymnasium. Today, the first set of performers was announced. Twenty-seven acts were named in total. Find out who they are after the jump!
Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yamada Ryosuke will be starring in NTV’s annual 24-hour television drama special titled “Okaasan, Ore wa Daijoubu” (Mom, I’m Okay) to be broadcasted on August 22, 9pm.
Based on a true story, Yamada will play the role of Sasaki Ryohei, a high school student and soccer club’s vice captain who was diagnosed with acute encephalopathy. It starts from his second year of high school and it shows his struggle as he goes from paying soccer, to surgery, and then death. This will be the third time for Yamada to appear in a 24 hr TV drama special but this is his first time in a lead role. Yamada “While considering why I was chosen for this role, I would like to act with all my respect. Through the drama, I would like people to feel the importance of family love and friendship.”
Joining him are Akai Hidekazu as the father, Yasuda Narumi as the mother, NEWS Masuda Takahisa as the older brother and Shimoda Shota as the younger brother.

In addition, the 2- part movie will also be the first Japanese films to use all 4DX, MX4D, D-Box, IMAX systems for “4D” experience. The first movie will open on August 1, and the second movie, Attack on Titan: End of the World, will open on September 19.
For the third week in a row, Superfly topped Recochoku with “Beautiful.”
Meanwhile on iTunes, Gesu no Kiwami Otome. topped the chart with their new single “Romance ga Ariamaru.” It sold 32,607 copies.
