Earlier today, CDTV aired its 25th anniversary special, CDTV Shuku 25 Shunen Special. The show featured performances by the likes of Ayumi Hamasaki, Perfume, KinKi Kids, Nishino Kana, Nogizaka46, AKB48, Masaharu Fukuyama, and NEWS. CDTV Shuku 25 Shunen Special Live Stream and Chat

Utada Hikaru Divorces Husband of Nearly 4 Years

It has been revealed that Utada Hikaru and husband Francesco Calianno have divorced, the singer’s record company confirms following a Nikkan Sports headline.

The divorce is fact,” Sony Music Entertainment Japan has said in response to Japanese News outlet MaiChannel shared in a report this morning.

Further details are unknown, but according to Nikkan Sports, rumors have been spreading around Calianno’s hometown of Fasano, Italy, and acquaintances claim that they “broke it off a few months ago.

This report comes after nearly 4 years of marriage and having a child together, following periodical rumors of the couple parting ways making headlines, with articles claiming that he was unemployed and living off her money.

Studio Ghibli’s co-founder, Isao Takahata, has passed away

Anime director, producer, innovator, and Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata has passed away on April 5th, newspapers have reported. He was 82. Different sources cite heart problems or lung cancer as the reason of death. Studio Ghibli is yet to confirm the reason. However, it is known that he had been frequently hospitalized since last summer.

The 2013 animation ‘The Tale of the Princess Kaguya’, a breathtakingly beautiful film animated to look like a painting, remained Takahata’s last work. He is best known for the 1988 film ‘Grave of the Fireflies’, a depiction of two orphans in second world war Japan.  His other work include films like ‘Pom Poko’ and TV series ‘Heidi: A Girl of the Alps’.

Tatsuro Yamashita to provide the Theme Songs for the upcoming Mamoru Hosoda film “Mirai no Mirai”

It was recently announced that veteran singer/songwriter Tatsuro Yamashita has been tapped to write music for the upcoming Mamoru Hosoda picture “Mirai no Mirai”.  This will mark the second time that Yamashita and Hosoda have collaborated together, as Tatsuro previously wrote “Bokura no Natsu no Yume” for the latter’s “Summer Wars” nine years ago.

This time Tatsuro will provide a pair of songs which will serve as the film’s theme song and opening theme respectively.  Both the opening, an up-tempo pop tune titled “Mirai no Theme”, and the as-yet untitled theme song will be included on the singer’s upcoming single, which is set to be released on July 11th.

“Mirai no Mirai”, which will tell the story of the young Kun-chan and Mirai, his younger sister from the future, will open in Japanese theaters on July 20th.  You’ll find the English subtitled version of the film’s most recent trailer below.

Galileo Galilei successors Bird Bear Hare and Fish to release their First Single in May

Earlier in the year we reported that the former members of rock band Galileo Galilei, together with that band’s support guitarist, had formed a new group called Bird Bear Hare and Fish.  Now this band have announced their first official release:  a Double A-side Single which will be released on May 2nd.

Titled “Page / Tsugi no Hi”, this release will be co-produced by both the band’s members and POP ETC’s Christopher Chu, who previously worked on Galileo Galilei’s album “ALARMS”.  In addition, it will also feature British music producer Mike Crossey on mixing and American engineer Greg Calbi on mastering.
