Upcoming Fall JDoramas 2015

Hello Arama readers! Welcome to our seasonal list of of Jdramas. Again, you can check out the list of the fall/ autumn drama line up below.

TBS opened up a new drama slot on Wednesday midnights, with Odagiri Joe’s “Taro’s Candy House” as the first drama for the said timeframe. FUJI TV also introduced a new Saturday late night slot with comedy series “Teddy Go!” This season also signals the start of the new NHK Asadora drama “Asa ga Kita” starring Haru and the end of Inoue Mao’s taiga drama “Hana Moyu” by year end.

A chart of Fall Drama Specials is also included. A lot of drama SPs are lined up, including two huge drama specials from TBS and FUJI TV starring Ninomiya Kazunari.

Sypnopsis: Based on a popular comic series by Miki Aihara, “5→9 From Five to Nine” tells a fresh, charming love story between two people from a completely different world and background.

Sakuraba Junko (Ishihara Satomi) is a part-time teacher at an English conversation school who dreams of one day working in New York. Junko strives hard to achieve her dreams, but New York seems a far distant reality. And she hasn’t had much luck with romance for a while either. But things suddenly start to change when one day, Junko encounters a handsome Tokyo University graduate monk Hoshikawa Takane (Yamashita Tomohisa) at a funeral service. Due to numbness of her legs after sitting for a long time, Junko accidentally knocks over the bowl of ashes, which falls right onto the head of Takene—probably the worst impression anyone could make. After such embarrassing mishap, Junko figures she would never see him again. However, the two end up meeting again in a matchmaking session that was set up by Junko’s mother.

Based on the popular comic series by Yamazaki Sayaka, the story follows Satomi Shinobu (Matsuzaka Tori) and Inokuma Yuki (Kimura Fumino) who work as detectives in the Mobile Investigation Unit of The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. The two are assigned as partners on the job and consider each other as rivals. However, once off the job, they are a couple but they keep their relationship a top secret. One day, Shinobu and Yuki were at the site where a dead body was found. There, they encounter a mysterious beautiful woman named Tachibana Kara. Soon, a series of bizarre crimes involving gruesome murders begin to occur; and strangely, Kara always appears at these crime scenes. Together, Shinobu and Yuki attempt to find the truth behind the serial murder cases and uncover Tachibana Kara’s identity.

He is gifted with an ability to diagnose illnesses simply by looking at their appearance. He is also able to detect the “signs” in people who will commit future offenses. One day, with this ability, Tameyori foresees and stops a crime before it happens. After this incident, Tameyori meets Detective Hayase Junichiro (Ito Atsushi) and they start to work together to solve cases.

Sypnopsis: “Lady Girls” is a poignant romantic comedy that portrays the lives of three single, professional women in their search for happiness and love.

A still-single 40-year-old Nakahana Aki (Shinohara Ryoko ) has a successful life with her career but struggles when it comes to love. She appears to be an attractive, independent and capable woman, but whenever she starts going out with a guy, she tries too hard and often ends up miserable. After experiencing a series of disastrous relationships, Aki is now fearful of falling in love.

Aki has two best friends she often gets together for a girl talk: Oosaki Moeko (Kichise Michiko) an owner of a flower shop, and Sakata Midori (Suzuki Sawa), a divorced working mother raising three boys on her own.

At work, Aki has been put in charge of developing a role-playing romance game app with a group of team members who are all younger than Aki. One day, Aki approaches a famous scriptwriter for romantic dramas named Takayama Fumio (Eguchi Yosuke) to ask him to be a supervisor/advisor for the game app development projects. At their first meeting, the two get into an argument when Fumio makes a comment about being 40 and still being infatuated with crush-like romance…

Sypnopsis: Based on an original work by Miaki Kato’s novel entitled “Are You Teddy?”, the brand new Saturday late night slot presents an upbeat, refreshing comedy series “Teddy Go”!

Yamase Kazuko (Morikawa Aoi) is a 23-year-old part-time worker who recently got cheated and dumped by her boyfriend and also just lost her job—basically she feels she has reached the rock bottom in life. One day, she walks by a store and finds a teddy bear she fell in love with at first sight. She immediately buys and happily returns home with the teddy bear. The next morning, as she wakes up, what she saw in the mirror was a reflection of herself cuddling with … an tough-looking, middle-aged man! However apparently, no one can see him but Kazuko. He is actually the spirit of a man named Amano Yasuo (Aikawa Sho), a detective who lost his life in the line of duty, hosted within the body of a teddy bear. With exchange conditions, the appealingly odd pair a job-less young female and middle-aged detective decide to work together to uncover the truth behind that criminal case that Amano pursued while he was alive.

His partner Makimura Kaori (Aibu Saki) takes care of him and they do everything they can to be there for each other. “ANGEL HEART” begins where these two find themselves in a desperate situation—Kaori suffers a freak accident, which leads to her untimely demise.

Sypnopsis: TBS presents the drama version of “Downtown Rocket” by Ikeido Jun starring Hiroshi Abe. A man who gives up his career as a researcher to succeed his father’s manufacturing factory strives with his workers to overcome the troubles and pursue their passion in manufacturing.

Though Tsukuda Kohei (Abe) quits research at the Space Science Development Agency to suceed Tsukuda Manufacturing, he cannot leave behind his passion for developing rocket. The cost for developing rocket engine has put Kohei’s company in serious financial trouble. While he scrambles for funds, their rival company – Nakashima Industrial – sues Tsukuda Manufacturing for patent infringement. The company’s reputation soon goes down and banks refuse to finance them, but then one of the leading companies in Japan, Teikoku Heavy Industries, offers to buy a Tsukuda’s patent for 2 billion yen. Although the company is heavily in debt and desperately needs the cash, the patent is what the engineers put their dreams. Kohei – a president who is responsible for the living of his workers – faces a difficult judgement to make.

Sypnopsis: 100 days to the wedding. Even though the daughter gets frustrated by her mother’s unconventional attitude at first, the mother gradually becomes her hope to live. This heartwarming human drama explores the story of a kindhearted daughter and her unconventional mother.

Serizawa Hitomi (Karina) was raised by her father, Kensuke, who runs a sushi restaurant in Tsukiji. She becomes a project leader at the real estate company she works for, and is also engaged to a doctor, Sonoda Yuichi (Suzuki Ryohei , whom she will marry in 100 days. One day, however, the doctors find a brain tumor after a medical check-up. While she is struggling to accept the diagnosis, her mother, Kanako (Harada Miek), who is supposed to have died 28 years ago, suddenly shows up out of the blue. Kanako says that she couldn’t help coming back to see her daughter getting married. Hitomi, on the other hand, feels resentment at how self-centred her mother is.

For the first time ever, it allows boys to enroll. Fujino Kiyoshi (Nakgawa Taishi) and his four friends Gakuto, Shingo, Joe and Andre are the first to be accepted. Shortly after being admitted, they fail to comply with the school’s strict rules against voyeurism and sexual harassment and get transferred to a “school prison”.

Meanwhile, their other old friend, Kimura Reiko (Ono Machiko) comes back to the town with her son after getting divorced. As old friends gather again, they start to face a past of old dreams and heartaches, and then they start to realize something important.

The patient is a pregnant woman, Yano Natsuki (Shimizu Fumika), who has never taken an obstetric examination. Even though Shimoya (Matsuoka Mayu) says there is a risk of infection, Sakura takes the woman in saying “the baby is innocent”. With the help of Imahashi (Omori Nao) from Neonatology, and veteran maternity nurse – Komatsu (Yoshida Yo), Sakura begins the surgery…

Kaburagi Wataru (Sorimachi Takashi) is a career bureaucrat who desires a secondment from the Ministry of Law to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department because of his interest in crime scenes.

Nicknamed the “queen of firearms and drugs”, Sakiko is an outstanding female detective who has transferred to the Organised Crime Special Division, a department recently established by the top brass to strengthen measures against firearms and drugs.

Sypnopsis: Sato Ikuo (Mukai Osamu) met his wife, Kawamura Kaede (Eikura Nana) at the hospital where he is interning at, when her grandfather, Kawamura Kozo (Kishibe Ittoku), was hospitalised for his heart problems. He fell in love with her and decided to marry her even though their social statuses are worlds apart. The Kawamuras are a distinguished family running the prestigious Kawamura Memorial, a funeral home, and Kaede is their sole heir. Whereas Ikuo comes from a broken home and was brought up by his single mother. Due to that, Ikuo actually marries into the Kawamura family and tries to lead a happy life with his newly wedded wife. He takes in stride all the snide comments and innuendos from his in-laws, as he is not bothered about inheritance and what-not. In fact, Ikuo does not even get involved in the politics at the hospital, as his dream is to go to remote places that lack medical practitioners so as to be able to help as many people as possible.

Will Ikuo and Kaede be able to lead a normal family life? Or will they be dragged into an ugly battle over the family fortunes? This drama will make us think about the meaning of family, and the impact of fighting over inheritances.

Sypnopsis: Takechi Hanpeita (Nishikido Ryo), a samurai of Tosa domain who campaigned for the expulsion of foreigners, unwittingly travels 150 years in time from the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate to present day Japan. Becoming a teacher at a private school run by Saeki Makoto (Morimoto Leo) in a village in the remote countryside through an unexpected turn of events, he solves all kinds of problems with methods unique to a samurai. Hanpeita is reunited with his good friend Sakamoto Ryoma (Kamiki Ryunosuke), who quickly adjusted to modern times after travelling in time to the present slightly before him, and lives in Tokyo as a journalist called Narasaki.

Sypnopsis: Towards the end of the Edo era, in the town of Kyoto, there lived a wealthy merchant by the name of Imai Tadamasa. He was blessed with 3 children, Hatsu, Asa and Kyutaro. His eldest, Hatsu (Miyazaki Aoi), was a traditional girl who loved to play the koto and sew. Whilst his second daughter, Asa (Haru), was an impish hoyden who loved sumo wrestling. Asa was engaged to be married to the second son of a distinguished family who ran a money changer business in Osaka, Shirooka Shinjiro (Tamaki Hiroshi). Although Asa was furious when she had first heard about the betrothal, when she met up with Shinjiro for the first time, his charisma greatly attracted her and she fell in love with him in no time.

After their marriage, at the cusp of the Meiji era, the Shirooka’s found themselves in dire financial straits, as money changing was no longer a lucrative business anymore. Shinjiro deemed himself not suited to making money and devoted his time to playing the shamisen and pursuing other refined cultural activities. As they neared bankruptcy, Asa decided to turn to coal mining, as that is the much-needed commodity at that time. She set off to Kyushu by herself, to talk to the coal miners to talk about coal supply.

Meanwhile, Hatsu was also married to another prominent family of money changers in Osaka. Facing the same financial difficulties as the Shirooka’s, Hatsu and her husband ran away in the middle of the night, disappearing without a word. One day, Asa bumped into her sister and tried to offer her financial help, but the young couple refused, as they wanted to rebuild their lives using their own capabilities…

The drama depicts the challenges faced by Asa, in a very much male dominated society, and how she overcomes them triumphantly. It also showcases the changes in the Japanese society as the Meiji Restoration slowly swept across the nation

Sypnopsis: It was the year 14 of the Tempo era (1843), a little girl was born into the Sugi family. Named Fumi (Inoue Mao), she is the 4th daughter in the family, also the younger sister of Bakumatsu-era Choshu Domain philosopher Yoshida Shoin (Iseya Yusuke) She went on to marry Katori Motohiko, becoming his second wife after her elder sister, Ju. Fumi also married Kusaka Genzui (Higashide Masahiro) a key person in the Sonno Joi faction in the Choshu Domain. However, Kusaka later passed away so Fumi remarried Katori Motohiko, the first mayor of Gunma Prefecture.
DESIGNER BABY ~ Hayami Keiji, Sankyuumae no Nanjiken

Her late father, Atsushi, had also been active as a brilliant pilot and researcher of JAMSTEC. He risked his own life to unravel the phenomenon called the “abyssopelagic universe”, but died of illness without fulfilling his life ambition. Miyuki is intent on exploring the deep sea that her father had told her about when she was a child, and devotes herself to her duties as a cadet pilot every day. Then one day, Miyuki gets the chance to board the 6K. JAMSTEC devotes itself to public relations activities on Japan’s first female pilot. But right before her voyage, Miyuki finds a tape from her father’s locker. It is a video that recorded enormous unknown objects and the fear of the pilots who were stranded in the deep sea. This also captured the last moments of her father. Seeing the shocking footage which bears no resemblance to the beautiful deep sea, Miyuki is assailed by an intense fear. Will she be able to come back safely from the dark deep sea?

Sypnopsis: Satake Junko (Koike Eiko) has been arrested as the main suspect in the serial killing of 5 men. The news is making sensational headlines in variety and talk shows too. Tanabe Junko (Matsuyuki Yasuko) is a journalist who starts investigating into the murders, with the hope of getting a scoop out of it. She contacted Shinoda Junko (Mimura), an ex-middle high school classmate of Satake, who claims to be buddies with her. Shinoda invited Tanabe to come up to her office for a chat. Meanwhile, having seen Tanabe on TV, Fukutome Junko (Nishida Naomi), an ex-colleague of hers, called her up and invited her to her home. Tanabe paid her a visit, thinking she has a lead on the case, but instead, Fukutome, now a housewife, just keeps talking about her problem with the hierarchy within her company housing complex.

Then one day, a man calls her, claiming that he may have been an intended victim of Satake. A man who is the son of another woman named Junko…

Sypnopsis: Yamaichi Securities was once one of the big four major stockbrokerage firms in Japan. In November 1997, the company had self-declared that it will cease operations. This is due to the uncovering of the fraudulent schemes the company was running, in order to hide the fact that they had lost more than 200 billion yen of 10 of their major clients’ monies. This drama showcases how the company’s own internal compliance/audit team tried to uncover the truths behind all the window dressing of the accounts.

Tatsuhiko Kajii was the Managing Director of Yamaichi Securities when he was suddenly transferred to the Headquarter’s Operations Administration department. As the role of the department is to perform an independant audit on the company’s operations, the office is actually located in a different building from the main office. Nicknamed as the boondocks where demoted people are sent off to, on his first at work in his new office, Kajii is told they are to be audited by the SESC (Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission). During those times, within the financial industry, many are resorting to profit racketeering schemes. Kajii then announces that he will be carrying out investigations together with the Sales Audit Department’s Hanase, his staff Nakanishi and the secretary Gamo. In the midst of the investigation, they discover material proof of the Internal Audit department’s Takimoto and Yoshioka being involved in such racketeering schemes.

The chairman, Arihara seems to be not too worried over the SESC probe, but the Vice President seems to be all jittery over it. Suspecting that something is afoot within the top brass, Kajii and his colleague Hayashi, try to get to the bottom of what they are hiding.

Sypnopsis: Takahiro Makita works in the Public Relations (PR) Department of Nagawara Seiyaku, a major pharmaceutical company in Japan. One day, on his way to work, he witness someone committing suicide by jumping onto the railway tracks, into the path of an oncoming train. A few days later, he is called into the Vice President, Takao Anjo’s office, where he is told that the suicide may have something to do with one of the drugs manufactured by the company. Anjo then assigns Takahiro to work with the police on their investigations. As Nagawara Seiyaku is currently undergoing talks with a major foreign equity group on a possible merger, any bad publicity will put an end to that. The company will definitely go under then, as they are in the red due to the economic crisis. Takahiro has been told to not breathe a word about the investigations to anyone, not even his fiancee, Mayumi Morita, who is working as Anjo’s secretary.

When the autopsy records the said drug to be found in the deceased’s body, Anjo instructs Takahiro to approach the family, to persuade them on an out-of-court settlement, while they are writing up reports for the Ministry of Health. Torn between his obligation to the public and to the company, Takahiro approaches the company lawyer, Tatsumi Takafuji, for advice and help.

In the end, will Takahiro ignore his conscience in order to protect the company’s profit?

Due to the death of Shiro, the auto workshop employees have no choice but to file for bankruptcy. Hungry for revenge against Kuwata, Noa takes over as the President of the company, and pledges to repay the 300 million yen debt.
