Man arrested following death threat towards AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi & members

A man has been arrested following his death threats towards AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi and all the idols he produces earlier this year.

The suspect in question, 39-year-old cram school teacher Yoneda Masakuni, has admitted to the charges against him.

According to the investigation, Yoneda tweeted on June 8 at 11:40PM at Akimoto: “I will raid and kill you and the idols related to you.” Additionally, CDs produced by Akimoto were found in his Osaka home.

Starting June 9, security at events and offices were increased until the conclusion of AKB48’s 45th Single Selection General Election ceremonies at HARD OFF ECO Stadium in Niigata, of which all current members of AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48 and NGT48 participated.

The tweets were reported to local police by vigilant civilians.
