Kyary Pamyu Pamyu celebrates 3rd anniversary as a singer

Model-turned-singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu took to Twitter today to celebrate her 3rd anniversary in the music industry.

Expressing her gratitude to fans, she wrote, “I still have the talent of a rookie, but I’m doing my best! Thank you for always supporting me!!”

Kyary caught the attention of teenagers nationwide as a charismatic Harajuku model when she was quickly scooped up and given a record deal. Working with critically acclaimed producer Yasutaka Nakata, known for his work with Perfume and Meg, she dropped her debut EP ‘Moshi Moshi Harajuku’ this very day in 2011.

Since then, she has received support worldwide for her psychedelic decora visuals and outlandish idea of “mixing the bizarre with the cute”, leading to an international cult following and topping year-end album lists with her album ‘Pamyu Pamyu Revolution’. She has gathered support on social media and expanded her brand by sharing cute pictures of herself and becoming the 3rd most followed Twitter user in Japan.

Her fourth year will be a particularly interesting year for this Harajuku singer. Revealed in a Dazed magazine interview, Kyary will make a shift from solely Yasutaka Nakata tracks to working with a more eclectic group of producers such as French band Yelle, of which she cited as an influence early in her career, as well as enigmatic London-based producer Sophie.
