Japan Box Office Ranking (Week of June 6 – 7)

Four new movies entered the box office chart this week. New Disney movie Tomorrowland took the top spot of the box office, followed by Yokokuhan starring Ikuta Toma and Toda Erika. Okaasan no Ki and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opened at number 7 and 8, respectively.

Following Cinderella, which already grossed total of 5.2 billion yen, the latest movie from Disney, Tomorrowland, opened at number 1. Published in 643 screens, the movie mobilized 190,216 people during its opening and earned 264,510,300 yen. The movie attracted the interest of a wide range of viewers from teens to adults. It looks forward to breaking more than 1.5 billion yen total.

Ranking second is the live action film adaptation of popular manga of the same name, Yokokuhan starring Ikuta Toma and Toda Erika. Pubished in 321 screens, the movie mobilized 144,631 people during the opening weekend and earning 199,075,100 yen. It is a respectable turnout especially when compared to the number of screens for Tomorrowland.

New movie Okaasan no Ki starring Suzuki Kyoka is based from a children’s literature published in primary textbooks. The movie is published in 203 screens and opened at number 7.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 starring Jennifer Lawrence opened at number 8. The movie was published in 266 screens.

Last week, movie An ranked 11. It broke the top 10 on its second week. Published in 77 screens, the movie earned a total of 100 million yen.
