Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw Namie Amuro defeat SKE48 and BUMP OF CHICKEN to come out on top. This week, we have a newcomer facing off against an entry from previous weeks. Find out what various staff members thought of the songs that topped the physical and digital charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!
Oricon #1: Kis-My-Ft2 – Sha la la☆Summer Time (not released digitally)
Watch here
Ronald: I was actually hoping to see BOYS AND MEN in this spot since this fledgling boyband really was giving a Johnny’s group a run for their money. But “Sha la la☆Summer Time” is exactly what one would expect: a summery pop tune. It can be a bit cheesy in parts, but that’s part of the appeal. The song has a certain nostalgia to it that is nice. It’s kinda… naively innocent and isn’t trying to be more than what it is. 6/10

Recochoku #1 / iTunes #1: RADWIMPS – Zen Zen Zense (movie ver.) (not released physically)
Ronald: Same review as before: I’m not really feeling this. It’s OK, but it’s just that: OK. This could’ve been made by a bunch of other bands. There’s nothing really special here that is grabbing me and making me pay attention. Frankly, I’m bored by this song. 5/10
