Namie Amuro’s “Finally” sells over 1 million copies in under a week, sets new record

Things Namie Amuro did, that. The singers latest best album Finally has sold over 1 million copies in it’s first week, with the album officially crossing the million mark after only six days.

Oricon reports that physical sales for the album after just one week currently stand at 1.113 million copies. This is the first time in over 13 years that a Japanese artist has been able to accomplish this feat. The last album to sell over 1 million copies in a week was Hikaru Utada’s Utada Hikaru Single Collection Vol. 1 released on March 31st, 2004.

This is Amuro’s second album overall to sell over a million copies in a week, her first being her second studio album SWEET 19 BLUES.

Furthermore, with this album Amuro has made history by being the only artist to achieve million selling albums in her teens, 20s, 30s and 40s. At 18 years old in 1995 she set the bar high with her first studio album DANCE TRACKS VOL. 1it went on to sell over 1.8 million copies. Amuro recently celebrated her 40th birthday on September 20th.

Finally contains over 52 songs, the singles span her entire career from 1992-2017. The songs included from Mister U.S.A up until 2014’s Tsuki all contain new vocals, 6 completely new songs were also recorded for the album. Amuro will be retiring next year on September 16th, 2018.

A true QUEEN!!!!!!! I’ll sorely miss you.. Finally is beautiful, listening to it, it must be an exhausting career and I can feel her relief to retire.
I guess Godtada is the last of the powerful jpop Queen, may her reign be long and prosperous

Congratz Queen! Still somehow so unreal that this year will be the final stretch. :'(

Me thinking back to people saying she wouldn’t be able to crack even half of that.

    • Still striving for relevancy..

I feel so bad for all the people that said she would be lucky to crack 500k…you guys have been so quite this past week

As a fan of over 12 years I’m just so proud she went for as long as she did and still managed to out do herself once again.

Album sales aren’t everything but it just feels so good to see these number as a fan.

Very happy for her success and setting these new records. As a fan since 1995, this will be a bitter-sweet year but it’s nice to see Japan deal with アムロス by supporting her and sending her off in such a great way. I wish that all her fans, especially foreign fans, will be able to experience her concert in person during this last tour (it’s an experience to be there in-person).

I’m so happy to see this incredible as a fan of 7 years. I have been listening to her music since high school and haven’t stopped since. The album is amazing and the song Finally is very sweet and touching. She deserves this rest after dedicating the music industry 25 years. This record made me feel touched “Furthermore, with this album Amuro has made history by being the only artist to achieve million selling albums in her teens, 20s, 30s and 40s” I am very honored and blessed to be a fan of hers. It’s very sweet and nice to see Japan supporting the Queen of J-Pop, a Living Legend. It’s kinda bittersweet, but this year, we should all try to make it a great year, just like what Amuro Namie wants to do in her last year in the music industry.

    • I’m super amped that she’s going out on such a high note. It’d be incredible if after all this time she had a year-end #1 album, which it’s looking like she will, at this rate.

I’m happy she’s getting her rest at last, guess she’ll support her son’s career now? I hope she can fulfill her wishes.

And I’m aaaalways baffled when her age is mentioned, I’m in my late 20’s but the woman looks way younger than me. 😂 She’s so beautiful, delicate like a doll. (and I adoooore that long hair, must be a pain to take care of).

A flawless queen. Wishing her a lot more success until she retires. I’m gonna miss her terribly.
