Japan Box Office Ranking (Week of Mar 12 – 13)

Several new movies entered the box office chart this time. Doraemon Movie 36: Nobita and the Birth of Japan continues to sit at the top of the charts, while new Pixar movie The Good Dinosaur grabs the 2nd spot. Everest: The Summit of the Gods starring Okada Junichi, Abe Hiroshi and Ono Machiko, debuts at the third place.

Doraemon Movie 36: Nobita and the Birth of Japan maintained the top position for 2 weeks in a row. The movie attracted an additional 415,173 people during the weekend and earned 485,423,800 Yen. The movie is likely to extend its strong pull with the coming spring break.

Entering the chart at no. 2 is the Pixar animation film The Good Dinosaur. The movie was screened in over 380 screens, and mobilized 191,696 people with a revenue of 237,050,500 Yen. Compared to last year’s “Inside Out”, the latest movie from Pixar recorded a weaker turnout.

The movie Everest: The Summit of the Gods, shot in Mt. Everest, which is a first in Japanese film history, opened at no. 3. The movie was shown in over 322 screens and mobilized 165,220 people with a revenue of 209,491,800 Yen. Starring Okada Junichi, the movie has been attracting middle-aged and elderly fans. The movie is likely to earn total of 1.5 billion yen.

What A Wonderful Family!,  director Yamada Yoji’s first comedy movie in 20 years, opened at no. 4. The movie was shown in over 320 screens, and mobilized 151,422 people and raised 173,022,200 Yen. The result is is 70.8% of the director’s previous work “Haha to Kuraseba”.

Anime movie PriPara Movie: Mi~nna no Akogare♪ Let’s Go☆Prix Paris opened at no. 9. The movie was shown on 116 screens and attracted 37,082 people with a revenue of 44,686,200 Yen. At no. 10 is the movie Ultraman X The Movie: Here Comes! Our Ultraman, which was shown on 50 screens. Digimon Adventure tri. 2: Ketsui opened at no. 11.
