Japan Box Office Ranking (Week of June 27 – 28)

This week’s box office chart sees the 1st to 6th positions unchanged from last week’s ranking. Love Live! The School Idol Movie continues its strong hold at the box office. New movie Strayer’s Chronicle starring Okada Masaki and Sometani Shota opened at 7th place.

The momentum of the popular TV anime, Love Live! The School Idol Movie has not declined. It kept the top spot for 3 weeks running, mobilizing an additional 188,004 people last weekend and earning 267,161,780 yen. It will soon reach 1.2 billion yen.

The 2nd to 6th positions remain unchanged from last week. Mad Max: Fury Road topped 700 million yen in 9 days. Yokokuhan has reached 1 billion yen. Umimachi Diary, consistently attracting the older demographic, is closing in on 1 billion yen.

Strayer’s Chronicle starring Okada Masaki opened in 7th place. Published in 246 screens, the movie mobilized 48,412 audience and earned 64,515,600 yen. Based from Honda Takayoshi’s best-selling novel of the same name, the movie also attracted attention with Sometani Shota co-starring in this sci-fi action film. It looks forward to earning 500 million yen total.

The second of the “Attack on Titan” compilation film, Attack on Titan – The Movie – Wings of Freedom opened at 10th place. Published in 78 screens, the movie mobilized 33,362 people and earned 47,706,500 yen. It had a very high occupancy rate per theater.

Juliane Moore’s Still Alice opened at no. 13.
