Several new movies made it to the top 10 of the box office ranking, with Cinderella setting a record Hollywood opening for this year. It will also be interesting to see how the line up of movies perform during the highly anticipated Golden Week starting April 29.

The latest film from Disney “Cinderella” has topped the box office charts. Published in 521 screens, the movie mobilized 419,796 people and grossed 556,108,800 Yen (4,680,767 USD). This made it the biggest opening for a Hollywood film in 2015. The movie is heavily geared towards female customers but a wide range of audience also came to see the movie, children to adults, families and couples. Last year, the simultaneous screening of Disney films “Frozen”, “Maleficent”, “Big Hero 6” and “Into the Woods” was a huge hit, and “Cinderella” is expected to follow. The movie is expected to earn more than 3.5 billion yen.
The first part of the Parasyte movie grossed 2 billion yen. Parasyte Part 2, the final part, got off to a start at no. 6. It earned 270,712,500 yen ($2.3 million) with 204,691 admissions on 422 screens. Its opening is 20% lower than the first film’s opening weekend. Final gross is expected around 1.6 billion yen.
Ryou and the Seven Henchmen ranked 7th earning 184,658,300 yen ($1.6 million) with 146,590 admissions on 246 screens. It will depend on its upcoming holiday box office performance whether the movie can reach 1 billion yen.
Ranking 8th is Chateau de la Reine starring Mizutani Yutaka. It earned ¥50,508,500 ($425,000) with 40,440 admissions on 258 screens.
Kyoukai no Kanata: I’ll Be Here II ranked 9th earning ¥46,592,100 ($390,000) with 31,587 admissions on 31 screens, showing high occupancy rate.
