Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw Beverly defeat Bodan Shonen Dan and Mai Kuraki. This week, we have three newcomers facing off. Find out what various staff members thought of the songs that topped the physical and digital charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!
Oricon #1 / Billboard #1: Kame to Yamapi – Senaka Goshi no Chance (not released digitally)

Ronald: I feel like this song is only a thing because these two have nothing going for them at this point in their careers and they’re just trying to capitalize off of the hype of “Seishun Amigo” a decade ago. But does this live up to the hype? No. I don’t see this song being a lasting thing like “Seishun Amigo” was. This song is so corny and dated sounding, juvenile even. I’ve given some KAT-TUN songs high scores over this series and I do like some of Yamapi’s songs, but this tune is just lifeless. It’s a throwaway track rather than something worthy of the reunion of one of the biggest special units in the history of Johnny & Associates. 3/10

Recochoku #1: Che’Nelle – Destiny (Oricon #43 / iTunes #4 / Billboard #6)

Ronald: I can’t help but laugh at the fact that the Recochoku chart is topped again this week by a non-Japanese Asian girl singing a drama theme. Like last week, I like this one as well. This one is a bit more subdued than Beverly’s song last week, but Che’Nelle is still bringing the vocals, but this song isn’t all about the vocals like Beverly’s song. This song reminds me quite a bit of JUJU’s “Last Scene” with the mix of urban music and classical music, but done in a more youthful way. 8/10

iTunes #1: WANIMA – Lullaby (Oricon #3 / Recochoku #6 / Billboard #12)

Ronald: The new Gesu no Kiwami Otome. has another hit! And once again, I’m not feeling it. This music just doesn’t spark any sort of interest in me. It just sounds like any other random punk song. 3/10
