Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw Yonezu Kenshi defeat KAT-TUN and TWICE. This week, we have three newcomers facing off. Oricon #1 / Billboard Hot 100 #1: Nogizaka46 – Synchronicity (Oricon Digital Singles #4 / Billboard Download Songs #4 / Billboard Streamings Songs #3)
Ronald: Surprise, surprise, a Nogizaka46 song is actually decent. They continue to win by providing a track that is fresh and full of energy. It has a bit of a Latin feel in its rhythm. It’s a great track to go along with this time of year, when it starts to get warm.7/10

Oricon Digital Singles #1 / Billboard Download Songs #1: Utada Hikaru – Play A Love Song (not released physically / Billboard Hot 100 # / not available for streaming)
Ronald: This is not single-worthy. It’s an ok song, but it’s more like an album track I would skip rather than something I would seek out to listen to. Utada has been generally disappointing since her comeback though. I did like the end when the choir came in though. It broke the monotony of the song. It’s also funny to me that this song almost lost #1 to Yonezu Kenshi’s “Lemon”, which has been #1 for a couple of months now. It looks like nobody is checking for this song. 5/10
__________
Billboard Streaming Songs #1: Nishino Kana – I Love You (Oricon #24 / Billboard Hot 100 #6 / Oricon Digital Singles #6 / Billboard Download Songs #7)
Ronald: I’m bored. This is boring. Another phoned-in song by someone who used to give us bop after bop. I don’t even know why I bother now. I keep hoping for another “Pa”-like oasis in this desert of dreary, but no… 3/10
