Hello Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw back number top AKB48. back number is back again this week, along with a newcomer. Oricon #1: Sexy Zone – Colorful Eyes (not released digitally)
Ronald: This isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I normally loathe Sexy Zone songs, but they’ve somewhat toned down their usual cheese in an effort to make something that is somewhat listenable. This song has a bit of 70s feel, a recent trend in Japanese music, and something that other Johnny’s acts have had recently; Kis-My-Ft2’s “AAO” comes to mind as an example. The vocals weren’t best, and the little rap part annoyed me though. And why are the 2 little boys back again? 5/10
Recochoku #1 / iTunes #1: back number – Christmas Song (Oricon #37)
Ronald: Same review as last week – This is pleasant. I like the Christmas feel of the song. It is done in a grand way, without being being overbearing or cheesy. That being said, I do feel as if the Christmas-y parts of the song are added on to what is basically the same framework as their other songs. back number’s songs tend to sound a bit too samey and get dull after a while. The Christmas-y additions to this song really helps make it a bit more interesting than most of their other work. 6/10
