Hello Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw THE Sharehappi from Sandaime J Soul Brothers win against EXO and miwa. THE Sharehappi from Sandaime J Soul Brothers is back again this week, along with 2 newcomers. Find out what various staff members thought of the songs that topped the physical and digital charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!
Oricon #1: Kis-My-Ft2 – Saigo mo Yappari Kimi (not released digitally)
Ronald: It’s ok, just kinda there. I can’t really complain about this song, nor can I really praise it. I feel like I’ve heard things similar to this song many times over the years. It’s a pretty standard midtempo song. It has a winter feel to it, which can be appreciated. 4.5/10
Thomas: This doesn’t feel like an idol song at all at first but leads into a very cheesy chorus. It feels like whoever composed this was forced to give it a Johnny’s vibe there. Apart from the disappointing chorus, the arrangement is what stands out in my opinion. It gives this a very pleasant atmosphere all around. It’s nothing special or remarkable but if I had to choose, I’d pick this one. 6/10

Recochoku #1: EXILE – Ki・mi・ni・mu・chu (not released physically til 12/9 / iTunes #2)
Ronald: This is so corny… Someone just needs to put EXILE out of their misery at this point. I’m just reminded of drunk dads doing a karaoke version of a knockoff of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” I don’t like cheesy things, but this coming from EXILE, the cheesiness is even worse than usual because it just seems so forced and against type. This is only getting the score it getting because the vocals are on the better end of things. 2/10
Thomas: This reminds me of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”, but not in a good way. The song is too straightforward for me to like it, there’s nothing unpredictable or special about it, it’s just there. 3/10

iTunes #1: THE Sharehappi from Sandaime J Soul Brothers – Share The Love (not released physically / Recochoku #2)

Ronald: Same review as last week – I really don’t like this. It’s so corny, so dated. This would’ve made sense years ago, but now? No. I wouldn’t had liked it then, and I definitely don’t like it now. And why are they trying to act like this is a subunit when it’s really Hiroomi’s solo song? If only 1 person is singing, it’s a solo song, not a subunit. And what’s with his voice on this? It sounds so stressed. 1/10
Thomas: Same review as before –I didn’t really mind this when I first watched that Pocky CM but now that I listened to the full song, this sounds like something you’d play at a children’s birthday party to me. EDM at its worst. And I swear I heard some of these samples a million times already. 3/10
