KEN THE 390

Samidare no Kimi ni

I said it before and I’ll say it again: this is basically a Drake song in Japanese. But I don’t have a problem with that. This song is really polished, which is something I generally like in my music. What’s funny though is that the combination of BACHLOGIC’s production and vocals on this basically overshadow KEN THE 390.

Kana Nishino

Pa

I know some will think I’m joking after all the crap reviews I’ve given Kana, but I actually really like “Pa.” It’s fun, lighthearted, really catchy. I heard it the first time and it just got stuck in my head, and I wasn’t mad at that. It’s nice sometimes just to have something fun, not something you really have to think about.

C-ute

°COMPLETE SINGLE COLLECTION

If there’s one album from the C-utie Queens to have in your library this would be it. This contains all of their a-sides, b-sides, rarities and some new recordings. This made me really appreciate Tsunku as a producer, definitely a step up compared to the average idol group. The improvement in their voices over the years is also pretty incredible, but in some cases the untrained voices is what made the older songs so charming in the first place.

The b-sides are the most interesting part of the release for me since they tend to be overlooked in general. There’s some duds due to them being b-sides obviously, but among those are quite a few gems that in some cases are even better than the a-side single it appeared on.

Game Review

Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2

Those who bought the last title Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- have the option to purchase this as a cheaper update instead of a stand alone game. Two new characters are included, along with balance updates and new moves for the entire cast, as well as more chapters in the story mode. This by far the best looking fighting game on the market, and rivals what any other genre has to offer. The character sprites and environments look incredible. The animations for character intros and “instant kills” are seamless, it’s basically like controlling your own anime.

One complaint I do have is that the main story mode is basically just an animated film, I would have loved if they added in battles between all the talking. The arcade mode and various other features more than make up for it though. The gameplay itself is flashy and super fun. After selecting your character a choice of playstyle is given, “stylish” or “technical”. Stylish mode simplifies combos and moves making them easier to pull off, while you need to put in a bit of work under technical mode. So if you’re new to the series, just looking for casual fun, or are a fighting game veteran all can enjoy themselves.

Tomomi Itano

#Ii ne!

Tomomi Itano’s latest offering has resonated with me very spiritually. It’s very fun and bubbly w00t! and listening to it has become a part of my daily morning routine. Great for the summer season, I also very much love the music video and dog.
