Upcoming Winter JDramas 2017

It’s that time of the season again! Check out the list of Winter Jdramas 2017 below!

This season’s lineup include dramas of Kimura Takuya and Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, their first drama work after SMAP disbanded last Dec 31. Get some real life mix in drama where actors play as themselves in TV Tokyo’s Byplayers and Yamada Takayuki no Cannes Eigasai. This new season also signals the start of the new taiga drama Onna Joshu Naotora starring Shibasaki Kou.

This will also be the last season for NTV’s signature Saturday 9pm drama (Gokusen, Nobuta Wo Produce, Kindaichi, The Queen’s Classroom). Variety show Arashi ni Shiyagare will be moved to 9pm while drama timeslot will change to 10pm. The network’s Saturday golden timeslot will follow their current ratings winner Sunday lineup with 3 variety shows in a row.

Takanashi Asuka (Nishiuchi Mariya) is a twenty-something woman who works for a megabank and holds various professional qualifications in finance. Despite her successful career, she is extremely eager to get married and become a stay-at-home housewife. One day, she suddenly gets damped by her boyfriend of five years. Desperate to find her next potential husband, she immediately starts searching to find the “love of her life.” Then she meets Nanami Ryu (Yamamura Ryuta), a very popular TV newscaster. He appears to be the most ideal man for Asuka, except that Ryu is 100% against the idea of marriage and determined to never get married. However, despite their different views on marriage, they eventually fall in love and start their relationship. Koichi’s father killed his mother and his brother, then he took his own life—or so it appeared. In fact it was all a set-up. Koichi (Kusanagi Tsuyoshi), 9 years old at that time, was the only witness present at the scene and saw the face of the true murderer. Despite his repeated testimony, no one took him seriously. He was called a liar and even his relatives looked at him with suspicion and distrust. Growing up, Koichi learned to master the art of lying and turned into an extremely skilled liar.

Eventually, he moves to Thailand, changes his name, gets a fake identity and becomes an extremely successful conman. There he meets the murderer who killed his family 30 years ago. He swears himself to take revenge and returns to Japan…

Ando Ranko (Karina) is a police detective. She is single and has no boyfriend currently. Even though she is only 32 years old, Ranko is extremely capable at her job. With a track record of solving many difficult cases, she is regarded as one of the top detective of Metropolitan Police Department. She doesn’t listen to others’ advice, never cares what others think about her and does things the way she wants to.

Ranko starts working with a new partner Toshio Ooyama (Kato Shigeaki). Toshio, who has long dreamt of being a detective, has a strong sense of justice and is the complete opposite of Ranko. He cares what others think of him and tries hard not to be disliked. Working side by side with Ranko, Toshio comes to hate her for her arrogant attitude and willful behaviors. Will “the world’s most disliked female detective” Ranko and her overly self-conscious partner Toshio be able to learn to co-exist with each other and get their job done?

Okita (Kimura Takuya) comes back from America after 10 years away to perform cardiac surgery on his mentor and hospital director – Toranosuke (Emoto Akira). However, Okita’s return raises an awkward relationship among Toranosuke’s daughter and pediatric surgeon – Mifuyu (Takeuchi Yuko) and her husband Masao (Asano Tadanobu), the hospital’s deputy director. Okita and Mifuyu used to date, but Masto – one of Okita’s childhood friends – married Mifuyu after Okita left to America and now helps run the hospital.
Meanwhile, director of the first surgery department, Hamura (Oikawa Mitsuhiro) is opposed to Toranosuke’s surgery, a young doctor, Igawa is skeptical about Okita’s direction of the surgery, and scrub nurse – Yuki begins to have an interest in Okita.

Sakurai Shinichi (Abe Sadao) is a junior high school graduate who works for a mid-sized real estate company. His wife, Kanako (Fukada Kyoko), is also a junior high school graduate, and they are blessed with a daughter – Kaori (Yamada Mikuu). Even though the family isn’t wealthy, they live happily together.

One day, however, Kaori receives the horrific result she scored on a nationwide exam. “Will my daughter be just a junior high school graduate as well?” Shinichi asks. After deciding to send Kaori to an elite school, worried Shinichi soon realizes his daughter will be in the bottom class in a cram school which makes it impossible for her to pass the school entrance exam.

Shinichi names the study room at home as “My cram school” and studies together with Kaori to make a way for her to enter a competitive school.

Synopsis:

Meanwhile, Kurusu Hatsue goes to the no. 1 investigation division and claims to have killed Miyata Futoshi. Three days ago, Futoshi’s dead body was found at an irrigation channel and the police concluded that he died by accidental drowning. Kurusu asks to be punished for his actions. Ukyo (Mizutani Yutaka) takes an interest in Hatsue’s appeal and begins an investigation by himself.

This lady says her 10-year-old son may possess the special ability to see the memories of other people and holds out a drawing that he had illustrated. The drawing shows a young lady lying down inside a home with a distinctive weather vane in the shape of a bat and because it is remarkably similar to the case of the Doisakis, Shigeko undertakes the investigation half-convinced. However, at that point, the youth dies in a traffic accident. Seiko (Kaho), the second daughter of the Doisakis, is told by her parents’ lawyer (Kuroki Hitomi) to severe ties with them while a female high school student is held captive in some neighbourhood.

Synopsis:

Shigeo owns an izakaya (Japanese pub) and used to run it until recently, having handed over the reins to his son, Kosei. Norio is a manager of a machinery equipment manufacturing plant. Back in high school, the three of them were part of the “Three Bad Boys” group. Kiyota is an expert in Kendo, while Shigeo has a black belt in Judo, and Norio is an ex-military strategist. All in their 60’s now, the 3 of them get together to form a vigilance committee, and patrol the neighborhood at night.
