Oricon #1 / Billboard Hot 100 #1: NMB48 – Warota People (not in the Oricon Digital Singles top 20 / Billboard Download Songs #52 / not available for streaming)

Ronald: Better than their usual material. Fun instead of overly cute. I like the Latin flair to the song. 5/10

__________

Oricon Digital Singles #1 / Billboard Download Songs #1: back number – Mabataki (Oricon #9 / Billboard Hot 100 #2 / not available for streaming)

Ronald: Same as before: A nice, sentimental song that fits in well for the Christmas season. It actually reminds me of lot of back number’s “Christmas Song” due to the arrangement, the bells mainly. It’s very lush, heartwarming even. 6.5/10

__________

Billboard Streaming Songs #1: DAOKO x Yonezu Kenshi – Uchiage Hanabi (Oricon #x / Billboard Hot 100 #4 / Oricon Digital Singles #3 / Billboard Download Songs #5)

Ronald: Same as before: This is basically a Yonezu Kenshi song featuring DAOKO. I have my problems with Kenshi, and they’re evident in this song. While listening to this, all I can think of is a rehash of a The Chainsmokers song. But I will say that DAOKO’s voice has improved. I listened to one of her albums a few years ago and I had to stop it a few songs in because her voice literally gave me a headache and made me want to vomit. I don’t have that issue now! However, I’m a bit lost as to what her point is. She was a rapper, and now she’s trying to be a popstar? I don’t get it… 5.5/10

This Daoko song is like this year’s Koi but her new album can’t even crack Oricon Top 10. Why?

      • Because the song was never about DAOKO, it was about Yonezu Kenshi. He not only sang on it, but also wrote it, composed it, and arranged it. DAOKO just sang part of it. Any girl could’ve done that and the song would’ve been a hit.

This is song is one in a string of hits for Kenshi, which led to his hit album “BOOTLEG.”

This song is probably DAOKO’s one big hit before going back to obscurity. Nobody was anticipating her album. They just wanted that one song she was on because Kenshi was attached to it.

ah, I personally still can’t get into Kenshi except maybe for Loser. He sounds like a solo version of Bump of Chicken & RADWIMPS with a little quirk.

          • That’s why he’s had as much success as he’s had. He’s able to bring the fans from his vocaloid work, gain fans who nornally listen to bands, and then crossover fans from the pop world.

I was shocked her album didn’t reach top 10 also! Step-up Love was also a moderate success so I was expecting she would do OK. I am super curious to see if her label continues to push her with her next releases

I personally like Kenshi Yonezu songs a lot! He also has songs composed under the name of Hachi P, they are really amazing.
