MACO attracts attention of Ariana Grande, Ne-Yo, Owl City

Shining at the top of the Rekochoku newcomer half-year charts, Hokkaido born singer-songwriter MACO has been getting attention from international artists.

MACO has made a name for herself by covering songs by Western artists such as Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Ariana Grande and publishing it on YouTube. Her version of Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” has so far gained over 5 million views.

In April 2014, she released her first indie mini-album “22″, which topped the Japan iTunes album charts. She was subsequently signed by Universal Music Japan.

MACO recently released her major debut mini album “23”, which includes an English-to-Japanese interpretation to songs like Katy Perry’s “Roar” and Ariana Grande’sBaby I”. Ariana has reportedly listened to her version and commented, “Her singing voice is very cute and the arrangement of the music is great as well.

R&B singer Ne-Yo also got a hold of her mini album, and her original track titled “ARIGATOU” stood out to him. He commented, “The song is great. Your lower tones will prove to be a great asset.” Additionally, “Good Time” singer Owl City commented, “I’m really surprised! You have a great singing voice.

Her debut mini album “23” that won the 10th spot on the weekly Oricon charts is to be re-released next month with 5 new tracks.
