Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw Yonezu Kenshi defeat TWICE and Mr.Children. Kenshi is back this week (but with a different song), facing off against two newcomers. Find out what Ronald thought of the songs that topped the singles charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!
Oricon #1 / Billboard Hot 100 #1: King & Prince – Cinderella Girl (not available for download or streaming)
Ronald: I’m actually surprised about how this isn’t horrible. When I hear “new Johnny’s group”, I automatically think of what garbage they can come up with next. This song is sweet and nostalgic, reminding me of a cellphone song from the turn of the decade. But uggh, I do hear a little bit of canned guitar in the bridge. 6/10

Oricon Digital Singles #1 / Billboard Download Songs #1: Yonezu Kenshi – LOSER (not in the Oricon top 50 / Billboard Hot 100 #6 / not available for streaming)
Ronald: I find Kenshi music to be quite hit or miss, with this being a moderate hit for me. It’s fun, but not all that great. His voice on this song can be annoying at times, but not an intolerable amount. 6/10

Billboard Streaming Songs #1: Bodan Shonen Dan – FAKE LOVE (not released physically / Billboard Hot 100 #5 / not in the Oricon Digital Singles top 20 / Billboard Download Songs #24)
Ronald: I really don’t get the hype over this group or this song. It’s too American Top 40 for me. If I wanted that, I’d listen to the radio here. The track itself is decent, and would be better if someone else was singing / rapping over it. I find the rapping here to be quite awkward sounding. The vocals at time are n the whiny side, but somewhat lacking in emotion, as if it’s all for show and not really meant. 4/10
