      Yay…congrats to ohno and 99.9
      Koike eiko and arashi too

    • Jo

The power of Arashi! Good for them!

    • light

I’ve only watched Sekamuzu and 99.9 dramas, between them i’m definitely for 99.9 as a drama and for Jun as best actor. Koike Eiko was the only one i liked in Sekamuzu so i’m happy for her.
Next i’m going to watch Juhan Shuttai.

    • WTF no Kenny Nagayama

    • Akkun

I honestly think Ohno is an underrated actor.

I used to think that his acting is average but after I watch Maou I changed my impression of him. If you think he’s a bad actor, go watch Maou.

      • light

I liked him in Maou and other works but I found him to be really bad in Sekamuzu. Maybe it was the director who wanted him to be so ott, anyways it didn’t work for me.
Good actors can have bad performances or roles that don’t suit them, lots of them often stick to one genre.

        • Akkun

I haven’t watch Sekamuzu so I don’t know, but maybe Ohno doesn’t really fit in romcom roles?

I’m looking forward to Shinobi no Kuni though! I can’t wait to see Ohno doing a challenging role as a ninja. I hope the director brings out the best of his acting ability.

          • Huju

Its not about not fitting in romcom roles but their decision to make the character so OTT was pretty cringey. A lot of romcoms have quirky but NOT ott character. For instance, Abe Hiroshi in Kekkon Dekinai Otoko which had almost a similar character plot with Ohno in Sekamuzu. I’m positive Ohno can do a quirky but natural character like Abe-san but the director chose to simply recycle the demon Prince Kaibutsukun to make it easier for Ohno.

            • light

He really was an adult Kaibutsu-kun, i’m used to ott acting in Japanese dramas but this time it was too much.

              • Huju

It was such a cop out. I don’t mind OTT characters myself and do wish Ohno or Nino gets awesome quirky characters like Komikado sensei (sakai masato) in legal high, but i’m so turned off by the obvious recycling of a character ohno already played.

          • light

I’m also looking forward to his movie, it sounds good!

      • Huju

I LOVE him in Maou, Kagiheya, Kaibutsukun and his stageplays. He’s indeed a talented versatile actor but his performance in Sekamuzu was a disappointment for me.

I was more impressed with Jun in 99.9, the true underrated one. He should’ve won instead of Ohno and I don’t think he had ever won one? Ohno have had some wins as the best leading actor so technically he’s not underrated. I’m guessing they were trying to quell protests by Sekamuzu/ohno stans if he didn’t win.

        • Akkun

I agree with Jun in 99.9! His performance really nailed it for me. Esp. the puns was funny xD I wish Jun would do more roles like these instead of romance things over and over.

It’s just in Arashi it’s always Nino/Jun (mostly Nino) who is well-known as a versatile actor, that’s why I find Ohno underrated. I think he really has potential to build his name as an actor with great script and directing that fits him, and of course if he has the motivation to do so. He gives off an impression of someone not trying to stand out among all members, I definitely want to see him grow his potential more.

          • light

I usually see people praising more Ohno than Jun when it comes to acting though. Plus Jun is not considered that versatile since the love stories image is too strong with him, 99.9 was a nice change.
I like Ohno enough as an actor but I have also a feeling he isn’t that interested in acting. One thing is not wanting to stand out in a group, another is doing a job alone.

            • Huju

I don’t want j to quit romance though. He’s made for romance.

          • Huju

Jun was really amazing in 99.9. He usually is criticized for over-acting but instead he nailed Miyama subtle expressions very well. His performance reminded me (slightly) of Ohno in Kagiheya since both caharcters has very subtle yet meaningful expressions.

Ohno is more known as the chameleon actor actually.. He has shown a very wide range from Maou to Kaibutsukun to Kagiheya. All with very distinct characteristics. While Jun is popular, he’s always seen as less talented in acting compared to ohno&nino. Even Nino has had some complains for playing different characters alike all the time ala Kimura Takuya (a criticism which i disagreed.but that’s another matter). I actually enjoyed watching Sekamuzu and the love story was not bad. However, I don’t think he deserves the best actor win this time considering Jun did better. I’m still am confident in ohno acting talent and can’t wait to be blown away by Shinobi no Kuni.

          • Isi

Ohno underrated? In a normal conversation between fangirls you can’t even say one word of criticism against him. Jun gets critique for every drama and drama choice he does. It’s really frustrating sometimes. I assume Jun didn’t win this time because Ohno stans would have gone maniac. (Jun got quite some hate because his drama did better rating wise)

        • correcaminos

I think Jun is the one with most wins among Arashi members. Anyway for me if it had to be an Arashi member to win this award I believe Ohno had better moments than Jun.

          • light

In general or for this prize? Cause between Arashi is Nino who won the most for his acting.

            • Midna

              Nino💛

              • light

I so want a nice Nino drama with an interesting character! Even better if he portrays a bad guy, don’t care if it’s a supporting role ,i think he could nail it.

                • Midna

I’m waiting for a MATSUMIYA cop drama TBH. I need them to act together so BAD!!!!

                  • light

Oh i’m totally for a Matsumiya drama! Maybe Jun can be the cop trying to catch Nino lol

                    • Midna

Jun and Nino as a team, Jun and Nino as enemies. I will take ANYTHING!!! TBH. I just want these two together in a project, and it will be epic. Their improv skit really sealed the deal for me. They were so cute.

                      • light

The one in Shiyagare right? That was funny lol

                      • Midna

Yes that one! They were cute~

            • correcaminos

For this prize. He has 5 wins (3 best actor and 2 supporting actor), Ohno has 4 best actor wins with this one though. Nino 2, Sho 1 and Aiba none.

              • light

Ah ok thanks for the info, couldn’t check before =)

          • Huju

Thank you for clearing it up :). Usually I was not that impressed with Jun’s acting so his awards prior to Miyama didn’t really get my attention.
Miyama (j) character is more subtle than Samejima (o) so I’m not surprised if you feel like Ohno had better moments. He had lots of moments in that ott drama.

            • correcaminos

Actually with better moments I mean the more subtle side of his performance. He didn’t deliver the ott comedy that well, at least not as well as Kuroki Haru in Juhan Shuttai. But the other side of his performance, since it wasn’t all ott, was great imo, and enough for me to like it above Jun’s and Hideaki Ito’s performances.

              • Huju

I beg to differ. Ohno subtle expressions in Sekamuzu wasn’t as memorable unlike Jun’s as Miyama. The subtle Samejima scenes that worked for me was only a handful of romantic scenes with Haru. Also Ohno subtle performance for past characters was much better. We can agree to disagree :)

        • yupz

Jun got more viewer votes though..usually ohno fans vote more him at this category.//I think ohno won because his act ws still god although the drama itself wasnt that good compared to 99.9//Sekamuzu in overall relied on Ohno act more
Kun’s acting was good in 99.9 but he got better supproting actor and better script and drama overall…
so I thought this reason made the journalist and jury vote for ohno

          • Huju

The jury and magazine voters voted Jun as the better actor than Ohno though. Ohno only topped the journalist category. 2 out of 3 Jun outvoted Ohno and yet he still won made it pretty questionable.

Jun might have great suppoting actors chemistry all around him but he owned that character while Ohno didn’t. I’m an Ohno fan and he usually gets me lost in his character but with Sekamuzu, it was simply watching Ohno acting as Kaibutsukun turned into a CEO in love. It was ridiculous.

      • byebicycle

people always mention maou and i can’t help but feel like the weird one for thinking ohno in maou was good, but not THAT good :x it’s been years since i watched it though, so maybe not take my opinion too seriously, but i distinctly remember thinking his “cold, emotionless” expressions didn’t really look that cold/emotionless to me… more like he was just staring off into the distance, lol. it didn’t feel entirely natural to me. but like i said, it’s been years, so maybe my opinion’s different if i rewatch it now.

        • light

I thought he was good, especially since it was his first lead role, but I also don’t really remember it, probably because i didn’t love the drama as much as other people. I also felt kinda weird before since everyone seems to love it so much lol i liked Kagiheya more =)

        • Huju

The pilot episode wasn’t great but i do remember for the rest of the series, I was screaming at my screen whenever Naruse (ohno) smiled innocently or made cold “emotionless” scenes. It kind of made me frothy in the mouth thinking of how genius his subtlety was in that drama. I was so happy he revisited the genius with Kagiheya.
Ohno’s climax scene in Maou destroyed me everytime I watched it. So was his “come and catch me quickly” line.. Or that scene with his sister..or his no lines final hug from his girl in front of the tunnel, etc, etcetcforeverinfinity.

    • Guest

Ohno? Seriously? He does have his good-ish moments (like Maou), but he was terrible in Sekamuzu.

    • Midna

      JUN~~~~!

Also, that actress lists is awesome. Kuroki Haru and Mitsushima Hikari are great actresses.

    • mai

congrats yutori team! i couldnt watch because the sub is so late but i’m happy many japanese critics like this drama.
      congrats YUYA-SAN!!! you deserve it!!!!

    • Isi

Meh. Ohno’s performance was so mediocre (I liked him in other dramas, but not this here). Koike Eiko was great though. How do they count the votes anyway? I’m surprised to see Matsumoto leading for jury and readers vote, still he didn’t win.
Juhan Shuttai and Haru Kuroki did well. Yes! XD (But do I really see Maeda Atsuko in the ranking? Did her acting improve that much?)

    • yue

So happy for Juhan Shuttai! One of my favorite doramas… excellent cast and story <3

    • Sunny

No doubt ARASHI will win awards. They are so popular now.

    • byebicycle

i’ve only watched 99.9, so i can only comment on that, but i’m glad it won ♥ i don’t understand how they counted the votes though? like, 99.9 topped the reader’s vote, but came in fifth and third with the reporters and jury, yet it still won. meanwhile, jun topped both the reader and jury’s vote, came in second with the reporters, yet still didn’t win. that… doesn’t really make sense to me, but ok then. :v

    • REMISU

Juhan sutta & 99.9 were great. Personally don’t understand why sekai ichi/ohno placed well but I guess that’s what you call the power JE.

      • soo

mm..sekaimuzu rating was good tho…not because of the power of JE

        • REMISU

yeah ratings were good though I’ll keep my personal opinion of the show to myself.

    • Ivy Vo

It’s been a long time since Jun stole my heart with his acting. So sad that he did not win the best actor. However, as an Arashi’s fan, I’m really happy for Ohno :)

    • Congrats to everyone who won.

    • lol

here we goes the discussion why Ohno won not Jun in the best actor award..sigh…
Ohno acting is good in sekamuzu and public in japan liked it and the rating was good for its timeslot..and Ohno outshone Reiji role despite the bad script and bad drmaa in overall while Jun’s acting in 99.9 was great but he got more help as he got better script and supprting actor than ohno….

      • light

Well everyone have different opinions and it’s not bad to discuss them, while keeping it civil =)

      • No

That’s a huge pair of blue-colored glasses there if you seriously think he was good…

    • Satowwwshi

I love Ohno to bits but I agree that his Sekamuzu was not one of his best but it’s probably because of the genre of the drama itself. It’s quite light compared to his previous works like Maou and Kaibutsu-kun that contains complex plots.

      • Huju

I disagree that its the genre fault/ ohno don’t fit in romcoms notion. His romantic scenes with Haru was the highlight of the whole series for me.
However I do get you on the lack of complexity (despite samejima being a carbon copy character of demon prince Kai), his crying scenes in Sekamuzu sucked compared to Kaibutsukun and Maou. I just can’t empathize with Samejima’s sadness and wanted to kick his butt instead.

        • Satowwwshi

I didn’t say it was the genre’s fault tho, I loved his portrayal here and I feel the same with his romantic scenes with Haru. It’s just that, this light genre can’t be compared to his other works like maou because the weight of both characters are so far apart.
And yes perfect example, the crying scenes.. I cried buckets with him in maou (just the feels ugh ;;) compared to the crying scene in sekamuzu, and that’s because the situation is much lighter compared to the situation in maou.

I think it’s just really depends on the complexity of the plot and the character itself. but nevertheless, he still nailed the role of samejima reiji

          • Huju

Ohno has done well in light hearted dramas too. He did well in Uta no Onisan and his New Year Sp with Aragaki Yui. I remember I cried along with his character in Utaoni. Kagiheya too was pretty light and 50% of Kaibutsukun plot (ep.4 was devastating ;((((). I think his Samejima in Sekamuzu wasn’t well thought out and he didn’t execute it well enough

I hope he’ll do better in future romcoms or any drama as a normal human character. And please no recycling Kaibutsukun again.

    • Kokoro Ai

I’m glad to see some love for Juhan Shuttai! very cute and good drama.

    • Koike Eiko deserves everything.

    • Historia Lenz

I didn’t like Riida’s acting in Sekamuzu, and I think that Jun did an excellent job in 99.9. Anyway, as an Arashi fan, I am happy for both. :)

Teruyuki Kagawa losing is unbelievable. T.T

    • Fuyuko

definitely agree with the Supporting Actor!!! in fact, he’s better than the Best Actor here (sorry riida, love you lots but acting-wise, Yuya trumps you!)
