Hey! Say! JUMP marks 10th anniversary, to debut on Kouhaku

On November 14, Hey! Say! JUMP held their 10th anniversary event “ULTRA JUMP Party ~ shin no Hey! Say! JUMP wa oreda!!” at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. It is the same venue where the “Volleyball World Cup 2007” was hosted and in which the group served as special supporters during debut. Yamada Ryosuke comments “Today is our 10th anniversary. This is also a memorable place for us. I am glad we are able to welcome our anniversary this way with all of you.”

The official list of all performers for the “68th NHK Kouhaku Utagassen” will be announced very very soon but newspapers and morning wide shows are already confirming Hey! Say! JUMP’s debut appearance on the show. The group has gained popularity and has grown into a group responsible for Johnnys next generation.

Since their debut in 2007, the members continue to be active in movies, dramas and variety gaining popularity from a wide range of people. The group is also hugely popular among junior and senior high school students, and is likely to attract attention as a “big newcomer” that will be a key point for the program to attract viewers in the 10s and 20s.

In recent years, members appeared regularly on information programs with Arioka Daiki and Yaotome Hikaru on “Hirunandesu”, Inoo Kei on “Mezamashi TV” and with more appearances in movies and dramas such as Yamada Ryosuke in “Fullmetal Alchemist” (released December 1), the fan base has expanded. With their popularity and name recognition, they have been offered to participate at an early stage.

Yamada Ryosuke and Chinen Yuri were able to participate in Kouhaku as part of the unit NYC from 2009 – 2012 but this will be their first Kouhaku stage with Hey! Say! JUMP. From December 8, the group will embark on a Dome Tour. In between their Tokyo Dome dates on Dec. 29, 30 and January 1, the group is scheduled to participate in Kouhaku rehearsals and performances.

im kinda surprised it took them this long to be added??

    • This took a while but didn’t Arashi get into Kouhaku at their 10th year too?

      • Karen Caiza

Yes! Arashi also perfomed for first time at 2009.

      • yamakita

And it took Kinki 20 years? HSJ is ahead of the schedule!

        • It is because KinKi has their year end concert at Tokyo Dome on the same day and time of Kouhaku every year since 1998. 8D

          • yamakita

and they got eliminated right away…

there are talks of them being dropped

      • myu

even Kis-My-Ft2 is a better choice than Sexy Zone.

For the past few months, it’s been a total mystery to me as to why Inoo Kei has been pushed so much. Usually, he’s not even near the front and center position when posing as a group…yet here he is.

      • kirin

        Wow it’s true….
HSJ center position in my mind has always been the trio of Yamada, Nakajima & Chinen
Now even Nakajima who has been quite popular/elite since jr is pushed to the side
Maybe he slept with the grandma? Lol joke

        • mfban

Aside from the first few singles and few songs Nakajima got for his acting, Nakajima has never really been regarded as “the trio”. Normally it would be Arioka Daiki. Now Nakajima is more “elite” in terms of acting rather than within JUMP songs.

        • Reileen

JUMP chibis are the usual front: Yamada, Chinen, Arioka

      • AoiMe

Inoo is actually fun.. Well at least from the few appearances of him, the rest are rather awkward

      • Nika Jer

I tried to understand this almost two years ago cause it started in 2015… and can’t get it even now.
Like one johnnys fan said: Inoo is not the person because of whom I will become JUMP fan…

        • Reileen

it’s actually in 2015 onwards that HSJ started doubling in popularity and changing group dynamics so whatever they did, along with Inoo’s push, must be working and they continue to doing it

          • Nika Jer

They do it pretty bad. You need to push the whole group, right? Not just Inoo suddenly alone. What about Takaki, Okamoto? They’re not worse. Better. It’s not evenly again. In the past you could really see why they pushed Yamada and Chinen. Now I don’t understand this kind of dirty push with Inoo.

Well, for me Mezamashi and Merengue are ruined.

            • Reileen

they are successful in doubling the popularity of the group in just like a year so that means they are managing it well. and they are steadily rising. they are trying to promote everyone. it was very obvious in these recent years. it’s just that it was very prominent with Inoo bec he was one of the most ignored/ unknown member so his rise in popularity was very obvious.

also, they have 9 members. it is challenging to balance but individual and group activities has since improved when JE was starting to get serious in promoting them as a group. if I’m gonna list each of their projects this yr, it’s gonna be too long bec they have 9 members but for e.g.

Arioka Daiki – Code Blue drama and movie, Koshoku Robot drama, Kodomo Tsukai movie with Tackey, Hirunandesu variety show, AYT sub unit double A side release with Takaki and Hikaru

        • Headless Star

What is wrong with Kei-chan being pushed to center? I mean, I actually became a casual fan of HSJ because of Yuya. I first watched him in Gokusen and of course in Bakaleya. But seeing him now with little lines and not in the center does not me make feel less of a fan rooting for him. Maybe there is something that they have seen in Kei-chan for him to put in the center together with the usual ArioYamaChi.

      • mfban

He needed some time to finish his bachelor before being shouldered with that massive push, lol. On one hand, he has quite a distinctive character (among JUMP). Other, imo, even if he did sth wrong in shows (it happened), he could easily be shoved back to his initial position. Imagine if Yamada said sth horrible on a show, people would definitely create a big fuss about it.

      • Reileen

I can take other pictures that rotate members’ positions but that’s one of the clearer ones lmao

    • AoZora

Yatto! I knew it they will debut this year.. Congrats JUMP!

    • What

Woo congrats! So I’m guessing they’re not doing a concert for new years then

    • Bobson Dugnutt

Should have been them instead of NYC and SZ all these years
