A LIFE has the most boring first episode among the dramas I watched this season, despite the ‘all-star’ cast.
Tokyo Tarareba Musume is not bad so far, I adore the actors and actresses there. Quartet started a bit slow but it made me crave for more, probably has the most interesting plot among those I’ve seen.
It’s not mentioned here but I also enjoyed Rakuen. Nice to see Nakama Yukie.

I haven’t see any drama for this season, what do you think is the good one?

I’m loving “Okaasan, Musume Yamete mo Ii desu ka” but there isn’t any English subs available yet…

The mother-daughter casting is pretty good, but the casting of that guy seems to have missed the mark. I don’t know why anyone would want to fight over him. It’s also a change to see Haru go from the sunny asa-dora to this one.

Omg don’t be so mean to Yagira Yuya! Haha!

              If you say so.

I’ve only seen 3 episodes but it doesn’t seem like a drama about mother and daughter fighting over a guy so far.

It’s more of the mother being a manipulative control freak who treats her daughter as her doll. She sees her daughter as a projection of her hopes and dreams. A way to achieve what she wanted to do in life but failed to. She’s kind of living her ideal life through her daughter.

There are also references to the “original” Snow White story in the drama where the Evil Queen is not her step-mother but her birth mother in the beginning and then we have a scene like this.

Coincidentally, “that guy” happens to be her mother’s ideal type in terms of personality etc. when she was young. She married a honest and down to earth man though.

That was the reason why she pushed her daughter to date “that guy” in the beginning.

However, the mother doesn’t like it when her daughter starts to form opinions of
her own when she started dating “that guy”. I reckon the mother will be
using all sorts of underhand methods to ensure that her daughter remains
under her control. I’m merely guessing here but one of the methods might
            include seducing “that guy”.

By the way, “that guy” also happens to be a really decent actor among the pool of young actors. He was only 15 years old when he won Best Actor Award in the 2004 Cannes Festival, for a role he played when he was only 12-13 years old.

Thanks for the explanation. I watched the first episode on TV and didn’t really understand what was going on. But this kind of plot, like bullying, is always depressing and the outcome is generally “too realistic,” meaning even more depressing. It’s a pass for me.

      I’m really enjoyed Quartet.

I hope somebody will sub Uso no Sensou! One of the best this season if only I could understand Japanese.

Also why nobody is talking more about Doughnut Holes (Quartet band) Shiina Ringo penned themesong? I saw a pv of it and it made me want to watch the drama.

      • a chicken nugget

Just dug around to see if there was even remote interest and that doesn’t seem to be the case, rip.
May I ask how you’re watching it? You just going in head on with the raws?
