Hello!Project’s most bizarre song titles

One of Japan’s most popular online web portals goo decided to hold a ranking for Hello!Project‘s most bizarre song title names.

The former main figurehead and producer of Hello!Project Tsunku is an extremely eccentric man, and that tends to be showcased in Hello!Project’s lyrical content and the song names themselves. For many years now this tended to set them apart of the average idol group, and a funny topic that many fans can bond over. It also made many of Hello!Projects songs quite memorable due to the unique/odd name of the songs.

goo opened the polls and asked the wota what they thought were Hello!Project’s more bizarre song title names. 250 men and 250 women took part in the survey. Check out the top 40 ranking below the jump

1. Kobushi Factory – Dosukoi! Kenkyo ni Daitan (Dosukoi! Humble but Bold)

Dosukoi! Kenkyo ni Daitan is the major label debut single by Kobushi Factory. “Dosukoi” is a chant used by sumo wrestlers, basically to hype themselves up. Calling yourself both humble and bold seems to be a bit of an oxymoron too. This song took the number 1 spot among the fans who voted. It’s worth mentioning the b-side has quite a unique name also, “A Song About Ramen Loving Ms. Koizumi”. It came in 11th place on the ranking.

2. Morning Musume – Pyocopyoco Ultra (Bouncy Bouncy Ultra)

Everything about this single is bizarre. The song, the video, the single covers, the costumes, the lyrics…Seems even Hello!Project fans who were used to very eccentric concepts were scratching their heads at this release.

3. Berryz Kobo – Gag 100 Kaibun Aishite Kudasai (Please Love Me As Much As 100 Jokes)

This song was used as the ending theme for the animated film “Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart 2 ~Yukizora no Tomodachi~.” Why 100 jokes? One of the goo writers equated this title to a “Dad joke”

5. C-ute – Dance de Bakoon! (Dance Explosion!)

      Legends!

<3 Though, v-u-den had weird songs. If anyone does a poll about weird H!P songs, I think Jajauma Paradise would be in the top 5.

        • Kyle

haaaah Jajauma Paradise was fun, the dance….

I’m still mad that rumored second album never happened for them

          • eureeka

You can go ahead and have a seat next to me in the waiting room while I wait for W’s third album.

              I’m sitting with you

    • Hmm

Speaking of which H!P really is like cheap cheesy pizza. Good, but too cheesy. I wish they’d own up to it instead of trying this cool hello bullshit. That’s why Keyaki is beating MM at the game they started.

      • aisasami

        To each his own

        • hm

no one’s saying it’s bad. but they’re like cheap frozen pizza trying to peddle themselves as a real italian pizza. they have fans that enjoy it without the extra, so why try to be what they’re not? the whole cool!hello campaign is a joke.

H!P has always had cooler/more serious songs, and in my opinion, those are some of their best. Since the Cool Hello! Started, I’ve personally really loved a lot of what C-ute’s put out (Kanashiki Heaven, Kokoro no Sakebi, Kanashiki Amefuri, Jinsei wa Step, Summer wind, and Mugen climax, just to name a few ) as well as other groups as I’m a H!P fan as a whole (really loving MM latest single personally, and also Anju’s music has been quite good, although the last few singles haven’t stuck with me as much).

This person is right – to each their own. I think H!P does cool and serious just fine when they want to, but the charm of H!P is always the fun side. But I love that, in my opinion, they can do both.

However the rest of the campaign is quite stupid. The merchandise has been a complaint for years and they don’t change it (everyone’s sick of the basic black/white concert tshirts), and they can definitely execute things better. Also, it would be good to note that this is UF’s doing – Tsunku said recently he’s been writing fun and quirky songs for a while (as fans have been requesting them), but said the company just won’t take them. Tsunku wanted to go into a different direction with MM a while ago but it’s not his call.

      • tell it

truth. they basically took ’14’s formation dance style and added a subculture twist. lol. they even have the stoic center.

I feel like it’s too late for H!P to be “major league” again unless a literal miracle happens. So many mistakes even going back to golden age forcing all those graduations. The competition is just too fierce

    • C

imo the 46/48G and Johnny also have pretty bizarre song titles at times but h!p clearly takes the trophy

    • H!P groups definitely had their ghetto charm in the past. cheap melodies paired with cheap production quality, simple entertainment. you can feel this on titles like “War Cry Boy WAO!” too.

i would also throw their shitty official English translations into the mix.

This song changed my life. I just finished my robotics engineering degree.

Part of H!P’s fun is the wacky song names I think. But I would love to see the whole list.

    • mamoswine1

As expected trash, title, trash lyrics. They are only good at music before but now they are dead

    • aainaa

Wow… H!P really had a lot of weird song titles.. Yeah even now the fans still suffered from Pyoco Pyoco Ultra song since it 1st came out.. another song title that left me puzzled is Chokkan2 something about fish title… what the heck is that?? & that diet song.. hahaha

Some people H!P’s music had been weakening.. I dont know why but i always thought H!P music are good (esp MM).. I’m a fan of idol for 10 years now.. I always tend to jump ship all the time.. I jumped ship to AKB48 before, then to other 48G, then to Stardust group, later to other idols & now into 46G.. however, still I regularly found myself drawn back to MM & H!P.. not all their stuffs are good but some of the songs are awesome.. I listened to Jealousy Jealousy & BRAND NEW MORNING & was blown away.. I dont know why.. maybe just my taste of music I guess.. oops, i guess this is not really related to the article..
