Dream Collab! Kimura Takuya and Ninomiya Kazunari star in new movie “”Kensatsugawa no Zainin”

Kimura Takuya and Ninomiya Kazunari will be co-starring in a new movie titled “Kensatsugawa no Zainin” (Criminal for the Prosecution). This is the first time an Arashi and former SMAP member will be co-starring and is being tagged as a “Dream Collaboration” between these two top stars.

This suspense film is based on the 2013 novel of by Shizukui Shusuke and will be directed by Harada Masato (Japan’s Longest Day, Kakekomi, Sekigahara).

In the upcoming film, both Kimura and Ninomiya will play Tokyo public prosecutors. Kimura plays the lead as an elite public prosecutor Mogami Takeshi while Ninomiya plays novice prosecutor Okino Keiichiro who looks up to Mogami as a mentor. They both are assigned to a case with the suspect, Matsukura Shigeo, previously involved in a murder case of a middle school girl, which has already passed its statute of limitations. Mogami (Kimura) is bent on proving Matsukura’s guilt as his failure to put him to justice caused the death of his most beloved person. He is also aware of the heavy grief carried by the deceased girl’s family. As Okino (Ninomiya) doubts Mogami’s persistence in setting up the suspect as the culprit, tensions mount between the two as they stand off against each other.

“Kensatsugawa no Zainin” will be filmed from July to August and will be released 2018.

What do you think of this collab? Will we finally see Kimura on an Arashi show in the future? What more can we expect to happen?

One of Nino’s dream is granted. Acting at the same level with Kimutaku. Congrats Neen!

    • Thomas

I always find Japanese crime media to be very stiff and lifeless (I tried reading 64 -Rokuyon- but gave up after 70 pages or something) but I might give this a go because Nino is a great actor!

      • HyperMoot .

you’re talking about books/novels or films? There’s quite a lot of remarkable crime/thriller movies in modern Japanese cinema

        • Thomas

Mostly books and dramas. I haven’t seen that many crime movies. Got any recommendations?

          • HyperMoot .

sure, the first that comes to my mind is The Snow White Murder Case (白ゆき姫殺人事件) by director Yoshihiro Nakamura starring Mao Inoue, it’s really one of the best crime/thriller films I’ve ever seen. Here’s a non exhaustive list: The Wings of the Kirin, Suspect X (the one from 2008), Shield of straw (director Takashi Miike), Sway (director: Miwa Nishkawa), I didn’t do it (with Ryo Kase), Chaos (director: Hideo Nakata), Hatsukoi/First love (director: Yukinari Hanawa, starring Aoi Miyazaki) this one has a political feel to it, Children of the Dark (a dark film about child prostitution and organ trafficking). I’d add a few movies that are thrillers with an edge if i may say :): The World of Kanako (Tetsuya Nakashima), Grateful Dead (a weirdo of a movie), Cold Fish (Sono Sion whose films are a genre) and Monday (director: Hiroyuki Tanaka) which is more a parody/comedy than a true crime story, yet… there are many others

            • Thomas

OH I loved The Snow White Murder Case! It was an interesting twist to the whole genre by adding the element of gossip. I’ll definitely check out the others, thank you :) I really needed some new movies to watch

            • Laven Pillay

              ありがとうございました!

            • Tea T

Thanks for sharing this list! Have heard of a few but haven’t seen any.

        – Nino is a great actor!

Is he? You don’t seem like the Arashi fan type so I’m interested to know from a non-fannish perspective.

        • Thomas

I used to be a casual Arashi listener actually, but I saw Nino in some J-dramas and movies before getting into their music. I think he did an amazing job portraying his character in Letters from Iwo Jima (that was the first project I’ve seen him act in).

My main problem with Japanese acting in general is that it seems more reminiscent of a theater performance (emotions being exaggerated rather than portrayed subtly/in a realistic manner) but I don’t get that vibe from Nino as much.

          • HyperMoot .

I agree with you for the Nino part, he was amazing in Letters from Iwo Jima, he’s great too in Yamada’s “Memories of my son” . I disagree with the second part, though it’s true that some actors (mostly males btw) tend to overact, there are tons of fine and very subtle actors and actresses in Jmovies. To name a few, imo people like Gou Ayano or Chizuru Ikewaki are way more subtle than possible western counterparts

            • Thomas

Sure, there are many great actors in J-movies (Gotta love Matsuda Shota), I think it’s just a common thing that occurs especially with J-dramas and live action movies :/

    • I don’t care much that he is acting with KimuTaku tbh (dream collab is Nino x Kame) but the idea of the movie interests me since there will be tension between both, that will be a nice part for Nino. Thought it was gonna be more boring sounding so I’m excited now!~

      • Senna

Kame? Why? He’s not even at the same level as Nino when it comes to acting, let alone Kimura.

        • shaodowofmidnight .

As much as I love Kimutaku, I think Nino’s acting skills is better. Maybe it is because Kimura’s roles were always so similar in personality to each other but Nino has shown such wide range over the years. But yeah..Kame is good but not amazing. I can however see that Yamada and Yuto may be able to one day get to the level of Kimura, Nino or Okada.

          • Senna

Kimutaku has his thing going on. Its like Shakh Rukh Khan. Very big personalities but both of them own the characters given. No one will be able to play the roles as satisfying as they did. Technically Kimutaku delivery is on point & hit my guts everytime. He has nuanced range which people mistaken as having no range at all. Nino range is a bit wider than Kimura but there are roles that showed his weakness, roles that Kimura has excelled in (ie: romantic lead). Like Kimura, Nino is also criticised with having similar personality in each roles.

            • shaodowofmidnight .

Yes, Kimutaku is excellent in his dramas. I just wished they challenged him with more varied roles. I really enjoyed his acting in Good Luck (my favourite drama of his).

            • light

I think the tendency of casting Nino in human dramas ended up with him showing similar traits in his characters, but i find him to be so good in that genre!

            • TruthSpeaker

By the way,Shah Rukh Khan is poorer actor than KimuTaku, but has more star power. SRK’s acting has been the same since long time. I have long graduated from being a SRK fan…

              • Senna

I judged an actor’s performance by the way he delivered his characters and how affected I was by it. He delivers. I’m not his fan though. I’d say he’s the same level as Kimura.

                • TruthSpeaker

Having watching Bollywood movies from the childhood(I come from Pune, India), I have seen SRK’s rise to stardom and some of the best performances that he has delivered. Lately his acting quality has dipped and he usually uses gimmicks from his old hit movies to market his new films. Moreover SRK is the producer of most of his movies ,so I think he has greater control over the content. But, instead of watching over the content, what he does most of the time is excessive publicity to the point that his 2 yr. son is used in all the marketing gimmicks for his movies. That child has been used for PR since its birth.

SRK has this habit of releasing his movies at the same time as that of his competitors to reduce their profits. Dilwale was released during Bajirao Mastani and Raees was released during Kaabil. Both the movies sank because of lack of content.
You can watch his movies Jab tak hai Jaan, Happy New Year,Diwale etc to know how poor the story and content was.

In comparison,In Japan, the actors no matter how popular they are don’t have too much say about their career. Also movies in Japan are not made to celebrate one’s stardom. So I value Japanese actors more than Bollywood superstars.

Of course you can have your own thoughts on who is better.

                  • Senna

I was talking about talent of them as actors.

It’s not about how they’re controlling their own careers, or how SRK produces/market his own movies. Honestly those other stuff just create false & biased perception. For example in Japan, idols are stigmatized because they’re getting roles not solely on their talents. Most of the times the roles are handed to them without auditioning. I don’t let that knowledge blinded me from seeing/judging their talents as objectively as I can.

Imo, Kimutaku & SRK acting skills are at the same level.

                    • TruthSpeaker

tbh,I find Kimutaku to be more versatile and better actor than SRK based on their acting capabilities only.

As per me SRK’s acting has already stagnated. His emotions look the same, the way he portrayed in 1990’s.

As for idols being stigmatized in Japan,I am aware of that. In Bollywood too, roles are given based on recommendations of the stake holders.Auditions rarely happen..

                      • Senna

Same can be said about Kimutaku. His acting has stagnated since Moonlovers, his big budgeted movies are flops, and his recent drama A Live was a bit underwhelming. Like srk, i still think kimutaku is a good actor despite all that. So they both at the same level to me.

                  • Senna

Forgot to mention, i’ve watched Dilwale and i agree the movie was stupid. Very stupid. Still think srk acted well in it despite me being bored to death by the cliche storyline.

            • Urara Kasugano

omg nino and okada would have been the biggest dream collab!

              • Senna

They are both good actors but their good relationship might work against them on screen. Ohkada have a tendency to treat Nino lightly, ie: he won’t force him to go climbing mountains together.
I do want to see them working together but only if nino getting a unique role clashing with ohkada’s.

                • light

Lmao, as much as he likes Okada, not even him could convince Nino to go camping together XD but I’d love a collab!

          • Senna

Forgot to add something about Kame. I think he’s a good capable actor but that’s it. He don’t have that extra something that Kimura or Nino have. Yamada and Yuto has potential but both of them need a transformative role, especially Yamada. He looked about the same in every role.

        • Oh that was just my personal faves from each group haha, not in an actor level. IA with you regarding Nino’s acting skills > them. When it comes to whom I want him to act with soley on his acting skills only some females names come to mind.

      • TruthSpeaker

My Dream collab is KimuTaku and Kame. That one episode in Mr Brain was not sufficient to me…

    • light

I’m so excited for this new Nino movie!!! I love that there is going to be a stand off, the novice part alone didn’t seem too challenging.

I have never seen Kimura acting so it’ll be interesting to see how the dynamics between them will be =)

      • Senna

“I have never seen Kimura acting”
I’m suggesting Long Vacation. Yes. Do watch Long Vacation.

        • light

I’ve seen lots of people suggest that drama, i’ll get around to watch it!

          • TruthSpeaker

Also watch Love Generation,Hero.. They are good…

            • light

              So many suggestions, thanks =)

      • shaodowofmidnight .

I would also like to recommend Good Luck! and Mr. Brain

        • light

Thanks for the tip, Mr Brain seems interesting=)

        • Senna

Good Luck! was not that great imo. Surprisingly he lacked chemistry with Kou Shibasaki. Kimura had better chemistry with her in Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi (Eri Fukkatsu & Sanma). Now that’s a great twisted drama. Kimura’s best drama acting to date.

    • goingtojpn

wowowow… I can imagine Kimura very satisfied to work with Nino, he loves to work with talented people… As for Nino, I imagine him to be indifferent haha. Can’t imagine Kimura in ni Shiyagare nor VS Arashi, but let’s hope!

      • Senna

“As for Nino, I imagine him to be indifferent haha.”
Nah. Nino is not like that. Kimutaku is not someone he can mess around with like Nakai or Goro. He’ll be intimidated by him.

Here’s chibi Nino covering Kimura’s solo – Natsu

        • light

This was such a nice perf and they were so young, Nino looks so cute=)

        • goingtojpn

Nino, intimidated? Hahaha. I don’t think that brat is intimidated by anyone, which is one of his charms.

          • Senna

he bullshit his way out of not being intimidated. that’s his charm. nino is full of contradictions. he’s not that straightforward

        • disqus_fnwCMQDX7u

He also once called himself “kimutaku 2” after watching himself in a drama XD

          • Senna

That’s him bullshitting while placing kimutaku as a pinnacle career achievement.

            • disqus_fnwCMQDX7u

              yup.

    • Heyhey

Smaptards were believing this theory that SMAP will leave by September and reunite.
I can see this news finally killing all that hope lmao

    • natsu
    • Lol

      Yesss!!finally my wish comes true..
But actually Shingo and Sho did a drama sp back at 2000 so it is not the first time

Please kimura come to anishi or vs 🙏

      • light

I don’t know that sp but maybe they simply meant Kimura with “former Smap member”?

        • Lol

The writer wrote it as arashi and former smap member so the meaning is varied lol..

    • WhySoLonely

All I know is that Kimura Takuya needs to shape up as an actor. His last dramas have been so disappointing. I had hopes for “A Life” but it ended up being so boring.
When he decides to retire as an actor I want it to be on a high note. So I’ve been waiting for him to rise again.

    • Buzz

KimuTaku and Nino collaboration! This is interesting! I like KimuTaku I don’t think he is a super good actor but he got enough charisma and appeal to glue you on-screen and I usually like his choices of dramas . Not familiar with Nino as an actor but he seems to got better reputation in acting maybe I will try some of his stuff. But I hope this movie can be good and well-written.

      • M

I’d like to recommend Door to Door! It’s an older drama Special of his but it’s really good and one of my absolute favs from him! Platinum Data, as well as Haha to Kuraseba, are also really good.

You really can’t go wrong with Neen though, he’s really good. But Door to Door is a must see!

        • N

          Second Door to Door!

He can get it wrong though *coughyowakutemokatemasucough*

          • Buzz

Thanks I will try these too!

            • light

To go with Door to Door i’d also say Marathon, another sp drama from the same serie =)

      • N

I would recommend Ao no Honou, a movie directed by Yukio Ninagawa. It’s disturbing coming of age movie but it was Nino’s best acting by far. I was affected by it for days.

For something lighter, Haikei Chichiuesama is wonderful laid back comedy. A beautifully shot slice of life drama with a touch of romance. Very charming.

        • Buzz

Really thanks! I’v heard about his performance in Ao no Honou a lot so I will try it :)

      • disqus_fnwCMQDX7u

        Letters from Iwojima?

    • mikamika

smap fans: “Whose dream is that?”

      • Senna

Yamapi went to Arashi show again after long time. I see next is Kimura who will promo alongside Arashi. the faction struggle finally over ??

      • disqus_fnwCMQDX7u

Uh yeah… I’d say the faction war is over, lmao. Where have you been for the last 2 years?

      • chlowerrr

On Shiyagare, the sp from the 15th of april
