HKT48 and Johnny’s WEST top the weekly Oricon charts! 4/20-4/26

The Oricon weekly physical music rankings for the week of 4/20-4/26 have been released!

Fukuoka’s own HKT48 find themselves at the top of the charts with their fifth single “12 Byou” selling 277,916 copies, oddly enough near-exactly matching the first week numbers of their previous single.

Johnny’s Entertainment seven-member boyband Johnnys’ WEST released their first anniversary album “Paripipo“, selling 81,000 units in their first week and topping Oricon weekly album album ranking.

      ouch snsd

Glad WEST are gaining recognition, but I was disappointed in this album, and I wish they had a chance to be known for songs of theirs much better than Paripipo Anthem.

    • eplizo

I’m glad Bump did so well. Love the Single. West’s album was great too.

Woo Soshi! Queens of Asia!! That slayage!!!

      • Guest

        Really?

    • Poor Ai: #24 with 3,146 copies

I thought it sounded more like lounge music ? It was so repetitive at times that it was almost annoying. She was so creative in her earlier days and used to sell so much, it’s sad. I still listen to her 3 first albums from time to time though.
Has anyone else listened to her new album ?

        • I did. I liked it even though a lot of it sounds like something that plays in a shoe store.

      • mee-KE-le

It’s easily the best J-Pop album released so far this year. It deserved a lot more than that.
I don’t know for how long she can keep going with those awful sales.

      • surfboardt

It’s a shame because it’s easily one of her best releases as well as top 3 for J-Pop releases imo.

Hasn’t SNSD’s singles post Mr. Taxi all sold in that range? This isn’t new. They slay with their album sales.

      • Ryusei

their last single was galaxy supernova which sold 69’000 so no the only one that ever did this bad was flower power and that is understandable since it came out only one week before the album it was on came out so there was no real reason to buy it except for collectors sake lol

    • Ryusei

but honestly I’m not surprised at SNSD’s sales for this single because I barely see any positive opinions online and there is no tie-in and no promo + the B-side is boring = no surprise and no need for stupid bashing that being said I’m really happy for another #1 for J-WEST

      • It’s their first single I’ve liked in ages.

        • Ryusei

I like it too but when you look at comments on youtube, JPS, other comment sections the comments are rather negative, it’s like miliyah’s shounen shoujo, some international fans liked it, that didn’t stop it from disappearing in a matter of 2 days I’m just saying

        • mee-KE-le

My point exactly. I honestly don’t get the hate for this song.
And I’m glad that they went back to this electropop sound (which reminded me of THE GREAT ESCAPE Brian Lee Remix).

      • Nau

As someone who follows both Jpop and Kpop, i’m not surprised either. I’m one of those who didn’t like the song. The arrangements almost sounded outdated, the concept lacked freshness, the mv was boring (on kpop standards). I thought they had a stronger fanbase in Japan though. There are only 2 members left who aren’t in a public relationship, it’s the first single after the messy kicking out of Jessica, so maybe it’s putting fans off ?
Plus, their agency debuted a new girlgroup and focus on pushing them. For some time now i’ve been feeling like they stopped investing in them. They’re 8 years into their debuts and getting older.

      • starlightshimmers

K-pop artists never last long in Japan unless they really immerse themselves in Japan. BoA and TVXQ continue to have loyal fan base in Japan, partly because they also speak fluent Japanese. Even Western artists have a difficult time maintaining success in Japan.

    • SNSD is replaced by E-girls in Japan. They danced hard this time on the PV but they can’t beat the E-girls’ performers. Plus LDH has so much power now. You hardly see kpop groups on Japanese TV. People are starting to forget about them and they are becoming a thing of the past. I remember SNSD singing on Music Station like 2,3 years ago (I still have the download) and they looked amazing. I wonder if they can ever get that glory back in Japan.

    • Grace

Congrats Yuma!! Hope you do more better in the future. I like YOLO moment so much :)

And ouch for SNSD…i think this is so flop…
